ANNOUNCEMENTS

Holsinger to Speak on Middle East
Don Holsinger, professor of history, will give a slide-illustrated lecture on the current violence in the Middle East and his recent trip to Israel and the West Bank, Tuesday, November 7, at 1:00 p.m. in Demaray Hall 150. Faculty and staff are invited to attend.

Remembering Our Veterans
Join the SPU community in honoring veterans at this year's Veterans Day Chapel on Thursday, November 9, from 9:30-10:20 a.m. in First Free Methodist Church. Lt. Comm. Michael Colson of the Everett Naval Station will speak, the SPU Concert Choir will perform, and a parial list of SPU veterans' names will be read aloud. A prayer around the flagpole will take place at 11:11 a.m. for veterans, their families and the future of our nation. A suggested "Moment of Silence" will also take place at 11:11 a.m. across the SPU campus. Tables will be set up outside of Gwinn Commons and in the SUB where Christmas cards will be available to send an encouraging word or Scripture to someone currently in the service. We would like two faculty or staff veterans to carry in the flags at the start of chapel. Contact Anna Dufault, STUB Programmer at (206) 281-2863 if interested.

Skip Li on Campus
Last year's commencement speaker and well-known SPU alum Skip Li will speak to the Political Union cadre on Thursday, November 9, at 1:00 p.m. in Weter Hall 201. Li is a partner in the law firm of Ellis Li McKinstry. The meeting is open to faculty and staff. For more information, contact Greg Piper at (206) 286-6314, or e-mail gpiper@spu.edu.

More Students on Campus?
There will be over 200 high school seniors visiting our campus on November 8-9 for Senior Preview 2000: Preview Paradise. For many students this is a critical part of their decision-making process and many will choose SPU as a result of their experience. Please welcome students into your classes and residence halls and take a moment to give them directions if needed. Thank you to all faculty, staff and students who are participating in this event. Your help is what makes these events successful!

Course and Catalog Changes
All catalog and course changes requiring UPEC or GPEC approval or reporting must be received in Student Academic Services prior to their final meetings in Autumn Quarter.

GPEC: November 20, 11:00 a.m.

UPEC: November 27, 2:00 p.m.

SPU Theatre Presents Holiday Memories
SPU Theatre kicks off the 2000-01 season this Thursday night with Holiday Memories, two short plays adapted from Truman Capote's autobiographical work. Both humorous and warmhearted, the plays contain valuable insight about forgiveness and cruelty, friendship and sharing. Holiday Memories is one the whole family will enjoy. The production runs November 9-11 and November 16-18. Show time is 7:30 p.m. Tickets are on sale now at the FPA Box Office between 2:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, or call to reserve them at (206) 281-2959. Cost is $10, or $6 for students and seniors.

What Are the Students Reading?
Faculty and staff can keep up with campus events and news published in the electronic newsletter To The Point by clicking on the link in the upper right hand corner of the Faculty/Staff Bulletin or by going to http://www.spu.edu/news/tothepoint.

When Should I Go to Brougham?
Do you need constant reminders, even for the most important appointments? You know, like SPU home games? Well we have the perfect solution at the best price. It's the Falcon Winter Sports poster and it lists all the home events for gymnastics, women's basketball and men's basketball, and even the games across town at the UW or Seattle U. And unlike the schedule cards, the print on the posters is large enough to read before you reach for your glasses or contact lenses in the morning. Now here's the best part: They're free! Pick up posters at the Athletic's Office in Brougham Pavilion right now. Supply is limited.

Falcons Host Huskies in Friday Tip-Off
When the Falcon fans last got together with their beloved SPU men's basketball team, Brougham Pavilion erupted with excitement and theatrics as SPU claimed the NCAA West Regional Title. On Friday, November 10, it's time to pickup where we left off. SPU is playing the Washington Huskies in a preseason game. Tip-off is at 7:00 p.m. Faculty, staff and student tickets are available at the Athletics Office, Monday-Thursday, 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., and Friday at the pavilion ticket window beginning at 6:00 p.m.

Falcon Athletics This Week
Friday, November 10--MEN'S BASKETBALL vs University of Washington (exhibition), Brougham Pavilion, 7:00 p.m.
Saturday, November 11--CREW, James Gardiner Cup, Lake Stevens, Washington, 8:00 a.m.
