From the President

Seattle Pacific University's 10th president Daniel J. Martin sitting on the steps of McKinley Hall.

I am happy to share with you this Year in Review, which commemorates the endeavors and successes of the alumni, students, faculty, and staff of Seattle Pacific University. While many things were accomplished in the 2019–20 academic year, the COVID-19 pandemic has more recently exacerbated pressures on higher education and upended the delivery of instruction and student life.

Looking to the future and the many challenges and opportunities that lie ahead, we are working on a Universitywide scenario and strategic planning. SPU’s mission remains the same, but the methods employed to accomplish it must evolve. Our response must be agile and proactive, showing evidence of the value and relevance of an SPU education.

We strive to create and deliver an education that prepares our students for the world which they will face. I deeply believe that an SPU education is needed more today than perhaps ever before. We also continue to look for ways to stand together to pursue justice at SPU and in the world.

I hope that you will join me in celebrating SPU as you read these stories and in praying for our future. We look forward to another year to learn, serve, and grow as a faith-led and grace-filled community.
