SPU Voices Podcast turns two

March 2019 saw the launch of the SPU Voices Podcast, dedicated to telling personal stories with universal impact. Since then, CEOs, professors, chaplains, nonprofit leaders, advocates, and other extraordinary SPU community members and guests have been interviewed in over 60 episodes, leading to over 10,000 listens in 835 cities across 57 countries on six continents. The podcasts can be streamed online or on a favorite streaming service.

Homecoming & Family Hub created

Instead of an on-campus event, SPU hosted a virtual Homecoming and Family Hub, making connection accessible from anywhere. The curated website included a parent prayer meeting, streamed concerts and YouTube videos, a current student art show, presentations by speakers, and a build-your-own reunion option. Seven reunions were hosted virtually.

Short film honors alumni in health care

For over 60 years, SPU has celebrated outstanding individuals through its Alumni of the Year and Medallion awards. This year, the many SPU alumni who serve on the front lines of the global COVID-19 pandemic were collectively honored through a short film, Front-line Falcons. The film focuses on three alumni — a doctor and two nurses — working hard to save lives at Seattle’s Harborview Medical Center.

The short documentary, renamed The Time to Heal, was submitted to several film festivals and was chosen by four to date — Cannes Short Film Festival, Seattle Film Festival, Walla Walla Movie Crush, and Compassion Film Festival. It is currently in the running for inclusion in several more film festivals.
