ANNOUNCEMENTS

Advent Devotions for Faculty and Staff
Advent devotions for faculty and staff will be held Wednesday mornings beginning November 29, from 8:30-9:00 a.m. in the SUB Fireside Room. Hot apple cider, tea and breakfast pastries will be provided. All faculty and staff are invited to join for a time of singing carols, enjoying fellowship and celebrating the true meaning of Christmas.

Need Help with Holiday Projects?
Do you need help with fall cleaning projects such as painting, yard work or other household chores? You have the opportunity to hire students to work for you on December 2. Students participating in "Project Workshare" are trying to raise support for their Winter Break short-term mission trips with the SPRINT program. Each year students rely on proceeds from this day of work to help offset the financial obligations associated with their service trips to Latin American countries. Suggested donation is $12 per person per hour. Please contact the SPRINT office at (206) 281-2491 as soon as possible.

November 30 A.I. Letter-Writing Campaign
Amnesty International (A.I.) is an independent, international movement working impartially for the release of all prisoners of conscience, for fair and prompt trials for political prisoners and for an end to torture and executions. Recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize, A.I. consists of more than one million members and supporters in more than 150 countries around the globe. SPU’s chapter of A.I. has been active for many years, sponsoring letter-writing campaigns and campus events related to human-rights activism. This quarter A.I. is hosting a letter-writing table in the SUB on Thursday, November 30. Please drop by for a few minutes and write a letter on behalf of a person unjustly imprisoned. Your efforts truly can make a difference. For further information contact A.I.’s student leaders, Jess Harmon at (206) 286-6322 or rowtheboat@spu.edu; Larissa George at (206) 286-6322 or lgeorge@spu.edu; faculty advisor Mícheál Roe at (206) 281-2252 or mroe@spu.edu.

Get in Shape for the Holidays
Once again, senior exercise science majors are available on a limited basis to provide a wide range of fitness and exercise services to the SPU community. These services include assessment of a single aspect of fitness, instruction on the use of a piece of SPU exercise equipment, a complete fitness assessment, exercise prescription or personal training. Additional information is available at: www.spu.edu/~weathers/exsciserv.html.

United Way Forms Due November 30
Did you know that one out of every three persons living in King County is served by United Way partner agencies? That includes more than 180,000 people who this year will use emergency food assistance from local food banks. A gift to the United Way 2000 Campaign will assist those agencies that are working to provide food for people who really need it. Just fill out and return the form you’ve received in campus mail to the Provost’s Office by Thursday, November 30. If you need additional forms, call 2111. Thank you for helping meet the needs of those less fortunate than ourselves.

Faculty, Staff Urban Plunge?
This month over 30 students submitted applications to pay $40 to experience what it might be like to be homeless. Now it's your turn. Would you (faculty and staff) be interested in participating in a Friday and Saturday night Urban Plunge learning experience similar to the one students do? The intent of Urban Plunge is not to serve the homeless in any way, but to learn from them what it's like to live on the streets of Seattle. We would like your feedback on two possible weekends that we could sponsor this event: February 9-11 or February 16-17. United Way and the City of Seattle employees responsible for homeless initiatives may also join. Please call or e-mail Michael Muto with your feedback by Wednesday, December 6.

Winter Cadre Leaders Needed
If you are interested in leading a cadre Winter Quarter, please print out the Cadre Proposal form at the Web site www.spu.edu/ministries. The form is located in the small group section of the index. Please send the completed form to Pamela Christensen in the Office of Campus Ministries, 2nd floor SUB. If you are continuing a cadre from Autumn Quarter you do not need to resubmit your proposal. Please submit cadre proposals by December 1. If you have any questions, please call Pam at (206) 281-2966 or email pjchris@spu.edu.

Do You Know a Sophomore?
Do you know a sophomore woman who is looking for encouragement, support and accountability through a small group? The Well Theme House will be leading small group Bible studies for sophomore women beginning in Winter Quarter. Encourage students to contact Laura Munter at (206) 286-7316 or lmunter@spu.edu.

Upcoming Local SPU Athletic Events
Thursday, November 30--WOMEN'S BASKETBALL at Seattle University, Connolly Center, 7:00 p.m.
