Faculty
With Evening Students
The Office of University Services will be open until 6:30 p.m., Tuesday,
April 3, and Wednesday, April 4, so evening students can get their SPU
ID cards. These cards are used to access meal plans, check out materials
from the library, and receive admission to and/or discounts on theatre
or sporting events. Students not able to make it during that week are
encouraged to go to University Services during regular office hours,
8 a.m. - 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Waitlist
Ends Thursday, March 29
The SPU waitlist policy is in effect until 11:59 p.m., Thursday, March
29. The waitlist operates on a first-on, first-off approach. If space
opens up in a waitlisted class, Student Academic Services will contact
students who have been registered from the waitlist.
Increasing
Class Enrollment Ends Thursday, March 29
If you would like to accommodate the students on your waitlist, and
the room capacity of the classroom would not be exceeded, please e-mail
Kristin Brann at kbrann@spu.edu,
or call (206) 281-2635 in Student Academic Services by 3 p.m. on Thursday,
March 29, to have your class enrollment increased. In order to stop
the waitlist on Thursday, the timeline for increasing enrollment needs
to match the waitlist deadline.
Last
Day to Add Classes Is April 3
Students are able to register, add and drop courses until 5 p.m. on
Tuesday, April 3. After this time, Web registration is no longer available
for Spring Quarter. This is the last day to register for classes including
classes that meet once a week.
Deadlines
for Pass/No Credit, Internships and Independent Study
Students wishing to take a course pass/no credit or register for an
internship, independent study or individual instruction in music may
do so in Student Academic Services, located Demarary Hall 151, through
Tuesday, April 10.
President's
Awards for Excellence
The President's Awards for Excellence annually recognize one faculty
member and one staff member whose contributions to SPU honor the University's
mission and exemplify the values and vision of the Comprehensive Plan
for the 21st Century. The President will select and then, on Tuesday,
May 8, 2001, announce the recipients at the President's Chapel for Faculty
and Staff Recognition. Each recipient will receive a $1,000 check as
a tangible expression of recognition and gratitude for their significant
achievements and service to SPU. To nominate individuals, go to the
Web site at http://www.spu.edu/special/presaward/index.html.
The deadline is Friday, April 13.
Limited
Seats Available for Community Breakfast
Faculty and staff are invited on a first-come basis to the SPU Seattle
Community Breakfast on Wednesday, April 4, from 7-8:45 a.m. in the Grand
Ballroom of the Seattle Sheraton Hotel. Dr. William J. Bennett, former
secretary of education and "drug czar," will give the keynote address.
Dr. Bennett is one of our nation's most respected writers, commentators
and orators. He has held several high-level federal positions, including
secretary of education, chairman of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
He is perhaps best known as the author of The Book of Virtues,
which established him as a champion of bedrock values and morals. The
book enjoyed a phenomenal 88 weeks on The New York Times best-seller
lists. The breakfast will be attended by more than 800 business and
political leaders from the Seattle area and is designed to better acquaint
the business community with SPU. Now in its fifth year, the annual event
is co-sponsored by University Advancement and the School of Business
and Economics. If you're interested in attending, please RSVP to ramyers@spu.edu.
Spring
Forward on Sunday
Just a reminder that Daylight Savings Time begins at 2 a.m. on Sunday,
April 1. Remember to set your clocks ahead one hour.

Wall
Publishes 2 Peter Study
Rob Wall, professor of Christian scriptures, will have his study titled
“The Canonical Function of 2 Peter” published in Biblical Interpretation,
9/1 (2001), 64-81. This study illustrates how the theological perspective
of 2 Peter complements 1 Peter in forming Scripture’s distinctive Petrine
witness to God. Rob also delivered lectures at Point Loma Nazarene University
in San Diego on a “Theological Reading of Scripture” during the “Rattle
in Seattle,” but thinks the two events were totally unrelated.
Ellis,
Fout's Article Published
Arthur Ellis, professor of education, and Jeffrey Fouts, executive director
of SPU's Washington School Research Center, recently had their article,
titled "Interdisciplinary Curriculum: The Research Base," published
in the March 2001 issue of The Music Educators Journal.
Christel
in Fuller Newsletter
Nancy Christel, assistant director of the Seattle Pacific Foundation,
had her article titled "Best of Both Worlds" published in the Fuller
Northwest Spring newsletter. Nancy is pictured with the president
of Fuller and his wife. Her article addresses the experience of attending
Fuller extension classes and participating in the Pasadena graduation
ceremonies. (Nancy received her master of arts in theology from Fuller
in Spring 2000.)
