SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

Whitman County Retired School Employees Scholarship
The Whitman County Retired School Employees Association has one $1,000 scholarship to award a worthy candidate who meets the following criteria: must be a graduate of a Whitman County public high school; must have successfully completed freshman year of college; must be in the field of education and plan to be a teacher; and must demonstrate some degree of financial need. Applications are located in the SFS Office and are due by April 15. If you have questions, contact Whitney Kruse at krusew@spu.edu.


Ruth C. Bartells & Geraldine E. Kelsch Memorial Scholarships
P.E.O is an international philanthropic organization that promotes educational opportunities for women. In awarding the scholarships, the committee will consider need, academic merit, moral integrity, and service to others. A woman is eligible to apply if she is a U.S. citizen and from the local area, a high school graduate or equivalent, a matriculated student, and within two years of completing degree; completed at least 2 quarters of secondary education, will be a full-time student, and have a 2.8 or above GPA. Scholarship amounts are a minimum of $1,000 each. Applications are located in SFS. All application materials are due by April 21. If you have questions, contact Whitney Kruse at krusew@spu.edu.


John L. Carey Graduate Accounting Scholarships
Liberal arts students wishing to pursue graduate accounting study can receive financial aid through the AICPA John L. Carey Scholarship Program. Scholarships are available to all liberal arts degree holders of any regionally-accredited U.S. institution who wish to pursue a CPA certification. Scholarships are given based on academic achievement, leadership and future career interests and are contingent upon acceptance in a graduate accounting program. Each year up to seven recipients will be awarded $5,000 and will be eligible for renewal for one more year, provided satisfactory scholastic progress is maintained. Fan Mayhall Gates Literary Reading by Professor Jennifer Maier

Professor Maier will read from her newly released debut collection, Dark Alphabet (Southern Illinois), winner of the 2005 Crab Orchard Review First Book Award. Event is free and open to the public. Last Day to Withdraw from Courses
Friday, February 9. Friday is the last day to withdraw from Winter Quarter classes. For more information, contact Student Academic Services at sasinfo@spu.edu or 206-281-2032.


Spring Quarterly Payment Plan
The deadline for the SPU Three Installment Plan option for Spring Quarter 2007 is February 15. This plan will divide the quarter costs over three payments instead of one. There is a formal application and non-refundable $30 application fee required for each quarter. However, you will not receive late fees nor have a financial hold placed on your account. For more details, please see the Student Financial Services website.


Lingua Journal Submissions
Do you create? Lingua - SPU's student journal for art, writing, and music, is accepting submissions for this year's journal. But don't wait too long! Our submission deadline is February 23 at 5:00 p.m. Please turn in your submissions at the Humanities Office on the 2nd floor of Marston Hall. If you haven't ordered your copy of Lingua yet, send an e-mail with your name and student number to lingua@spu.edu to add it to your student account.
