SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

Deadline is Fast Approaching: Eastern Washington Section of the Society of Women Engineers Scholarship
The Eastern Washington Section of the Society of Women Engineers administers a $1,000 scholarship to a female student in the rising-sophomore or above classification in the undergraduate or graduate school. To apply they must be a female student who has completed at least one year studies, satisfactory completion of a minimum of 1 year (full time equivalent) engineering credits and a woman residing in the Northwest (inclusive of WA, OR, ID, MT, or AK.) The NW Next Young Leaders Scholarship
There are 2 scholarships available to eligible students entering into their junior or senior year at a four year accredited institution in Western Washington. A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 is required as well as demonstrating civic or community leadership skills. More information about The Northwest Next Leaders Council can be found at www.nwnext.org. Soroptimist Scholarship of Seattle
Soroptimist Scholarship of Seattle This scholarship has been established by the Soroptimist Club of Seattle and is awarded periodically to a person from the Seattle community who is committed to attaining a higher education. This scholarship is awarded based upon demonstrated need. Applicants can be a person attending or planning to attend a college or university, be married, single, with or without dependents. Applicant must be accepted into their specified program of study. Applicant can be working towards a BS, BA, Masters, or Doctorate degree. Orientation Team Leader Applications
This fall, hundreds of new students will arrive at SPU for their first taste of college life. If you have a heart to serve students and a passion for helping freshmen ease into the SPU community, apply to be an Orientation Team Leader! OTLs arrive on campus for New Student Orientation and spend the few days before classes begin leading a group of freshmen or new transfers. Help with move-in, cheer at a soccer game, and share your general wisdom as an older student. Visual Communication Senior Portfolio Show
Come enjoy desert and music and take a look at some incredible design portfolios on Thursday, June 1 from 7:00- 9:00 pm, in the Science Building Lobby. This show will display all the hard work the graduating Visual Communication students have invested during their time at Seattle Pacific. The exhibition includes the best graphic design work of Jeremy Bonner, Haily Braumberger, Kellie Cameron, Elias Carlson, Kelly Chaney, Emily Fadenrecht, Ginny Hascall, Sarah Larson, Tierra Martin, Zach Moshofsky, Melissa Nickerson, Karen Phillips, Erin Pierce, Anne Pyle, Luke Rutan, Melanie Scott, Scott Thiessen, Courtney Thompson, and Jordan Wischmann. ENRICHMENT OPPORTUNITIES

Award Presentation for Kathleen Norris
Award-winning poet and author of "Dakota: A Spiritual Geography" Kathleen Norris will receive the third annual Denise Levertov Award at St. Mark's Cathedral, 1245 Tenth Avenue East, at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 24. Admission is free. Norris braids poetry, Benedictine spirituality, and the austere beauty of the plains into a rich tapestry, helping us to sense the presence of mystery within ordinary things. She will give a lecture entitled, "The Relief of Hearing Language: Readings with Commentary," and read from some of her current work. After Norris's reading and remarks, there will be a public reception and book signing.


The Last Paving Stone by Y York
It is almost time the theatre department is getting ready to put on its final performance of the year the annual back stage show. This years show is The Last Paving Stone by Y York a modern comic fable about being different and sustaining the environment. Everyone is celebrating the placement of the last paving stone covering the last unpaved patch of ground on the planet - that is, everyone except Ito, a girl with ears so big she can hear the ground talking. The show opens Tuesday May 23 @ 7:30 pm with shows the succeeding nights through Friday at the same time, with the final show being a matinee @ 2 pm on Saturday afternoon May 27th. ( May 23rd, 24th, 25th, & 26th @ 7:30 pm and Saturday May 27th @ 2 pm). For tickets you can either call the box office at (206)281-2959 (x2959) or come down to the box office in McKinley Hall (aka the theatre building) located in the loop across from the SUB. Tickets are $6 and you can buy them over the phone with a VISA/MasterCard debit or credit or in person also with a Washington State check and of course cash. Non-Work Study positions are available both on and off campus. Summer State Work Study positions are available throughout the state for those who qualify. Summer State Work Study
Summer 2006 Work-study Students who will not attending in the summer or will be taking less than 6 undergraduate or 3 graduate credits may be eligible to work up to 40 hours a week in the Washington State Work-Study program. To be considered for the program you need to have a valid 2006-2007 FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) on file at SPU and plan to return to SPU in Autumn Quarter. The State Work-Study program provides a variety of well-paying jobs, many within your major or career interest. If you are interested in Summer State Work-study visit Student Financial Services or contact the Office of Student Employment at ose@spu.edu.
