SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

Scottish Rite Scholarship
The Scottish Rite Scholarship Foundation is offering the opportunity to compete for a $2,000 scholarship. Requirements for the application are as follows: must be a U.S. citizen and a WA resident, a full time SPU student, going into your junior or senior year, maintain a 3.0 GPA, and done community service. Accounting Scholarships
Attention future accountants! The Washington CPA Foundation is now accepting applications for the 2004-2005 academic school year! Eligibility requirements include the following: be a sophomore by fall 2004, maintain a GPA of 3.0, community service, be a U.S. citizen, and show financial need. Central Copy Services “Lunch and Learn"
Announcing the DocStore "Lunch and Learn" training session January 28 from 12:00-1:00 p.m., a training and staff update for Central Copying Services provided by Kinko's. Lunch will be provided. Please sign up with Frank Kinard or in the Central Copy Center. We suggest a staff admin. attend the training and then pass along this valuable information to his or her group. Attendees will learn about DocStore, a fast and easy way to submit your jobs for production 24 hours a day. Also there will be a new face at the SPU Central Copying Services Center. Charlott Boyanton will be responsible for customer service, communication related to jobs in progress, and notification of completed projects. Please help us welcome Charlott to the SPU family. Due to the recent harsh weather conditions, the Puget Sound Blood Center reported that the blood need reached EMERGENCY levels recently. The 2-week holiday period, followed by the storm has severely hurt the blood inventory which is at it's lowest in eight years. By taking an hour out of your busy schedules to share your good health, you will benefit up to 3 patients in our community as they strive to regain their good health. The Center supplies blood to over 70 hospitals in 14 Western Washington counties and is internationally recognized for groundbreaking research in transfusion and transplantation. SPU Hoops!!
Basketball this week: Thursday, January 22, SPU women vs. Humboldt State at 5:30 p.m. and SPU men vs. Central Washington at 7:30 p.m. Homecoming games are Saturday, January 24. The women play Western Oregon at 1:30 p.m. and the men play Saint Martin's at 3:30 p.m. Students may pick up their complimentary homecoming basketball ticket in the athletics office between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. up until the day of the game. Students must show ID and only full time students may receive complimentary tickets. For more information contact the Athletic Office at ext. 2085.

SPU's Homecoming 2004 Row 'n Run and Brunch
Come run, jog, watch and...eat!!! Come Saturday January 24--8:30 a.m. to this Homecoming tradition is for students, faculty, staff, and alumni! Runners challenge the crew team at the Montlake Cut, by running along the water back to SPU, finishing behind Royal Brougham Pavilion along the canal. This is an estimate-your-time event, with some prizes to be won! The race starts at 8:30 a.m. A van will leave SPU gym at 7:45 a.m. Refreshments and activities to follow in the Falcon Lounge. Holocaust Survivor to Speak on Campus
Come to two Awareness forums about Ethnic Cleansing and Genocide, one featuring Holocaust Survivor Pete Metzelaar. Metzelaar will speak on Jan. 27 in Demaray 258 from 7:00-9:00 p.m. He is a child survivor from Amsterdam, Holland, who was twice rescued by the Dutch Underground. Come hear how he was able to escape from the Nazis and flee to America. He will be coming to share his story of survival and the insights he gained from his experience. There will be time for questions following his presentation. In addition, a forum will be held discussing more current acts of genocide and ethnic cleansing on Jan. 29 starting at 7:00 p.m. in Bertona 3. Dr. Segall and Dr. Ediger will be sharing their personal experiences and knowledge. For more information contact Katie Stalley, stallk@spu.edu.

Physical fitness and exercise services
Senior Exercise Science majors are available on a limited basis to provide a variety of physical fitness and exercise services. These can be as simple as the assessment of a single component of fitness or instruction for a specific exercise. On the other end of the spectrum you can get a complete fitness assessment and exercise prescription or have a personal trainer for a period of time. If you are interested, call Ivonne McClurg at ext. 2391 or the Physical Education and Exercise Science front desk at ext. 2081 and give the receptionist the information needed to match you with an appropriate student.
