COMMUNITY NEWS

FERPA Training for Student Employees
Student employees and teaching assistants who will work with the Banner Information System and/or handle confidential student records must receive training in FERPA (the Family Educational Rights & Privacy Act). A training session is scheduled from 9:30-10:20 a.m., October 9, in DH 258. There is no need to sign up in advance. For more information contact Debbie Crouch, dcrouch@spu.edu.

Summit Teams up with SPU- Library Access Expanded
Summit, the regional catalog of the Orbis Cascade Alliance, now makes over 22 million books and other items available for loan to SPU students. The Alliance includes the libraries of every public four-year university and college in Oregon and Washington, as well as 11 private colleges and universities and two community colleges. To borrow from the Summit catalog, all you need is your valid SPU ID and a computer that can take you to the SPU library's web page and catalog. Materials you request will be delivered to the SPU library in 2-3 days for pickup. Also new is the ability to go to any Alliance library and check out materials on-site. For example, presenting your SPU ID at the University of Washington libraries will now make it possible to check out materials not listed in Summit. For answers to your questions, or details, you may contact Paula Kraupa, pkraupa@spu.edu.

Peace Corps On-Campus
Peace Corps representatives will be visiting SPU with information about opportunities around the world. Visit their display table, Tuesday, October 28, 2003 between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. For more information, go to: www.peacecorp.gov

CAMPUS INVOLVEMENT OPPORTUNITIES

"Respect Your Body Week 2004" Planning Team Needs some Hands and Feet
Do you remember the "Wall of Expression" in the SUB? The "Great Jeans Giveaway"? "FreeMotions"? The "Body Walk"? All of these events (and more) are part of Respect Your Body Week, a week devoted to promoting a positive body image. This week gives the SPU campus opportunities to experience positive body images and gain understanding and knowledge of the issues surrounding eating disorders. This year, Respect Your Body Week 2004 will happen in February and we are looking for the hands and feet to help with a week of expression, action, and education. If you are interested in helping brainstorm and plan…Come on board! Contact Julie Church, churcj@spu.edu.
