|Winter Quarter Grades Due March 26|
Winter Quarter grades are due in Student Academic Services (SAS) by 4:30 p.m. on Monday, March 26. Grades may be submitted to SAS via the web, in person, placed in the SAS drop box (located outside of Demaray Hall 151), mailed, or faxed to 206-281-2669. Timely submission of grades helps students and offices with important processes such as the academic dismissal process, disbursing financial aid, and processing enrollment verification. If instructors want grades to appear on the web before March 26, they need to contact Coordinator of Student Records Kelli Knapp so she can roll the grades to academic history. If there are challenges when grading students, please contact SAS prior to the grading deadline. We may be able to assist with resolving the situation. |Next Weight Watchers Session Begins Spring Quarter|
A 10-week Weight Watchers session begins on campus April 10 through June 12. It's a terrific program for successful weight loss and good health. Last Spring Quarter, the group lost a total of 98.4 pounds. Weekly meetings are held Tuesdays at 11:45 a.m. for an hour in the new location of Bertona classroom 5. Registration is required, but please come to an informational meeting on Tuesday, April 3, at 11:45 a.m. in Bertona classroom 6 if you are interested in learning more about the program. |Climb Mt. Rainier and Support Students|
The SPU Society of Fellows is sponsoring “Summit Challenge 2007," offering a chance to climb Mt. Rainier in Washington state while raising money for student scholarships. Climbers will scale Mt. Rainier, June 23-25, and be guided by Rainier Mountaineering Inc. The program begins with an information meeting on Tuesday, April 3, at 6 p.m. in Otto Miller Hall, room 112. |Gymnastics Conference Meet Comes to SPU Friday|
SPU will host the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Gymnastics Championships Friday, March 30, at 7 p.m. in Brougham Pavilion. The Falcons are defending champions and are coming off a record score of 193.725 last week. Because this is a postseason event, admission charges apply for all SPU community members. General admission seating is $5 for adults, $3 for students or youth. Next month, SPU hosts the USA Gymnastics Women's Collegiate Championships, presented by Leisure Care. |Student Employee Celebration April 5|
The annual Student Employee Celebration is Thursday, April 5, 3-4:30 p.m. in Upper Gwinn Commons. The Office of Student Employment is collecting stories of appreciation about on- or off- campus student employees. Email stories to firstname.lastname@example.org. Selected stories will be highlighted at the celebration. This event honors all students who work both on and off campus. Please mark your calendar to attend this special celebration.
|Nominate a Student for the Barnabas Scholarship|
Do you know a student who demonstrates Christian character, has made a commitment to on- or off-campus service, shows a willingness to take on tasks regardless of recognition or challenge, demonstrates leadership, and will be a senior during the 2007-08 school year? If so, we encourage you to nominate this student (or students) for the Barnabas Servant Leadership Scholarship. Recipients of the scholarship receive a $750 cash grant and a contribution of $250 given in their name to a charity of his or her choice. Online nominations are due by April 16, and can be found on the Office of Campus Ministries Student Leaders website.

|Spring Break Hours for Subway, C-Store, Falcon's Landing, Pura Vida|
During the week of March 19-23 and on March 26, Subway will be open
10 a.m.-2 p.m., the C-Store will be open 9 a.m.-3 p.m., and Pura Vida will be
open 7:45 a.m.-10 a.m. All three campus dining outlets will resume their normal
schedule on March 27. Falcon's Landing will reopen with normal hours on March 28.
|2007 Writers Renewal Special Rate for Faculty, Staff|
SPU faculty and staff are invited to attend the annual SPU Christian Writers Renewal, May 4-5, at the reduced rate of just $75 for faculty and staff (regular $129). The renewal's theme for this year, “God Allows U-Turns: Find New Purpose for Your Writing Career," is presented by the SPU Fellows and features keynote speaker Allison Bottke, author and founder of the international outreach God Allows U-Turns. Also at the renewal will be literary agent Chip MacGregor and editors from Jossey-Bass Publishing, Cook Communications, Bethany House Publishing, and Harvest House Publishers. There will be 22 workshop sessions in a wide variety of subjects, from the elements of powerful nonfiction and how to write for children to “Publishing Meaningful Ideas in an Entertainment Age" with broadcaster Dick Staub. Do you know an SPU student who exceeds academically, is actively involved as a volunteer in the Seattle community, and will be a senior next year? The Young Alumni Council of SPU has established a scholarship for SPU seniors who have demonstrated academic achievement and a commitment to volunteer service off campus. “Here is picture of our adorable dachshund pup, Oscar. We adopted Oscar in August last year, and he's almost 9 months old. In the picture, Oscar is taking a nap in his favorite place in the house–on top of the couch. While my husband and I are out, Oscar sits on the back of the couch and keeps watch as people walk past our home. Oscar is definitely in the ‘toddler' stage of puppyhood, but we are having loads of fun with him. While out on walks, his most resent discovery has been gum that has been tossed on the ground; Oscar LOVES to find gum, and tries to chew it himself. Thankfully his mom is there to fish it out of his mouth. If you're ever walking past 36 West Dravus Street, feel free to wave to Oscar on your way by." |Adjunct Faculty Member Reads From First Novel|
Novelist and SPU adjunct professor of English Debra Dean will read from her first novel, The Madonnas of Leningrad, in SPU's Art Center Gallery on Thursday, April 5, at 7:30 p.m. Told from the perspective of a woman suffering from Alzheimer's, The Madonnas of Leningrad is a “spare and eloquent tribute to the beauty and resilience of memory." The book was selected as a New York Times “Editors' Choice." The reading is co-sponsored by Image journal and the SPU Department of English. This event is free and open to the public. Priscilla Pope-Levison, professor of theology and assistant director of women's studies, was recently invited to speak at the Justice for Women's Working Group of the National Council of Churches in Washington, D.C., and at Eastern University in Saint Davids, Pennsylvania.
