|Concert Choir's Latest CD Now Available|
The latest CD by SPU's Concert Choir titled “Sing, All the Earth" is now available for $10 to faculty and staff. After September 29, the price will be $15. To get your CD, contact Performing Groups Coordinator Merry Jensen at (206) 281-2933 or email@example.com. Cash or checks (made out to SPU) only. The CD contains sacred music from four continents, sung in eight languages and spanning four centuries. Also available for $10 are previous CDs by the Concert Choir: “O Nata Lux," “O Bread of Life" and “…With Music of Concord."
|Student Employee Supervisor Trainings|
Get ready for a smooth start to the academic year by attending one of two Student Employee Supervisor training sessions. The sessions will cover student employee paperwork, electronic payroll procedures; and a variety of other aspects to help you make the most of your student employees. |Would You Consider Leading a Cadre?|
The Office of Campus Ministries is accepting cadre proposals for the 2003-2004 school year. Cadres are groups of students who meet together with a faculty or staff member and explore the implications of the Christian faith – generally the exploration is centered around one specific area of interest (contemporary issues, academic disciplines, vocation, etc.). Many faculty and staff partner with a student(s) who helps in the coordinating, planning and general leadership of the cadre. |Fac/Staff Bulletin Now on Summer Schedule|
During the summer, the Fac/Staff Bulletin is published every other week
until late September. Be sure to send your announcements and news as early as
possible to the Fac/Staff Bulletin editor (Tracy Cooper) at firstname.lastname@example.org, or submit an item directly from the Fac/Staff Bulletin. (Look for the “Submit Bulletin Items" in
the upper right-hand corner.) The next deadline is Thursday, September 4,
for the September 8 publication. The Bulletin will resume weekly
publication September 22.

|Kelly Speaks, Writes on Writing|
Clint Kelly, University Communications specialist, was a keynote speaker and workshop leader for the Write-to-Publish conference at Wheaton College in early June. On July 25, he facilitated the Inspirational Writers Panel at the Pacific Northwest Writers Association summer conference in Seattle. On the print side, he had two articles published: "Banish the Summer Blahs: 9 Kid-Friendly Ideas for a No-Bummer Summer" in the June issue of HomeLife; and "Need a Diversion? Try Offbeat Writing Contests" in the September issue of The Writer.
|Sandlin's Two Articles on Giving|
Marlon Sandlin, planned giving specialist, wrote two articles for the summer/fall issue of Financial Playbook magazine, a national publication for financial planning professionals and their clients. The first article, titled “CARE Act of 2003 Encourages Charitable Giving," discussed the legislation currently working its way through Congress that would allow those claiming a standard deduction to also itemize charitable gifts. The legislation would also allow for nontaxable distributions from IRAs when these assets are used to make gifts to charity. The second article, titled “Using the ‘Stuff' of Life to Support Worthwhile Causes," discussed the value of making gifts to charity of tangible personal property such as jewelry, automobiles and antiques, as well as gifts of intangible personal property such as stock, insurance contracts and royalties.

Sociology Jennifer McKinney. The article, titled “Turning the Mainline Around,"

|Kelly Wins Lots of Chocolate and Flowers|
University Communications' specialist Clint Kelly's is one of the top 10 winners in the recent “Baci Chocolates Sweetest Words Contest." Clint won a monthly fresh-flower delivery for one year and a supply of Baci chocolate. Contestants had to write the opening sentence of the world's most romantic novel in 25 words or less (and include the words "Baci Chocolate"). Here is Clint's entry: "Forbidden to speak or meet, their love flowered the more -- hers in the Baci Chocolate left each sunset; his in the missing bite come sunrise." Go to the contest's Web site for the other winning entries. Congratulations, Clint.
