Although Miriam Adeney grew up in Oregon, she spent two childhood years on the island of Tinian, where her dad was the doctor in charge of the United Nations leprosarium, which served all of Micronesia.
She holds a doctorate in anthropology, has worked on five continents. Since 2002, she has taught short courses in Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Peru, Ecuador, Brazil, Spain, Morocco, and Canada.
Dr. Adeney is the author of four books and more than 150 articles. Through writers’ institutes that she conducts in various countries, she helps local authors create biblically balanced, culturally contextualized manuscripts for various media. She serves on the boards of Christianity Today International and Media Associates International.
The 2008–09 president of the American Society of Missiology, Dr. Adeney speaks on global issues at many seminaries and Christian colleges across North America. She also does cultural orientation for various mission agencies.
Married, she is the mother of three sons, and is a member of Seattle's University Presbyterian Church.
