History of “Bach at Leipzig”

Professor of Music Eric Hanson will lead a special talkback session for audience members following the SPU Theatre Department production of “Bach at Leipzig” on Friday, February 1. The performance and talkback session take place in the E.E. Bach Theatre in McKinley Hall on the SPU campus.

Hanson spent part of last summer in Thomaskirche Church in Leipzig, Germany, the setting for the play. He will tell stories about Johann Sebastian Bach, what Bach did in Leipzig, and the significance of the years 1721-22 (the time of the play). He will also discuss the collision of the Reformation, the Counter Reformation, and the Enlightenment during the 18th century.
