In a recent speech, first lady Michelle Obama read a quote from alumnus Jason Williams ’09 about a study abroad trip he had taken to China. She spoke at the "100K Strong" state visit event at Howard University in Washington, D.C. on January 19. The event was part of the “100,000 Strong Initiative,” a program to increase the number of Americans who have the opportunity to study in China. Obama spoke to more than 1,000 students about the importance of building relationships with their peers in China and around the world.
Here is William’s quote from Obama’s speech.
“When reflecting on his time in China, Jason Williams, a graduate of Seattle Pacific University, said -- and this is a quote -- 'I’ve come to understand the world as more complex, more interconnected, and more beautiful than I ever could have imagined.'”
The quote from Jason Williams is also found on SPU’s study abroad website.
