SBE First in the Pacific Northwest to Adopt the United Nations'

"Principles of Responsible Management Education"

Last Spring, the School of Business and Economics at Seattle Pacific University became the first business school in the Pacific Northwest to adopt the United Nations' "Principles for Responsible Management Education."  As an early adopter, SBE joins a number of other leading business schools in committing to inspire and champion responsible management education, research and thought leadership globally. 

Co-conveners of this program include AACSB, the Aspen Institute, EABIS, and the United Nations Global Compact.  AACSB accredited institutions who are willing to integrate corporate responsibility and sustainability in a systemic manner throughout their programs are invited to join.  According to SBE Dean Jeff Van Duzer, "For us, this was an easy decision.  This is right at the heart of what we've been doing for years."

You are invited to view the latest issue of Ethix.  Ethix is a bi-monthly publication of the Center for Integrity in Business (CIB) at Seattle Pacific University promoting the integration of good business, appropriate technology, and sound ethics.

Largest SBE Study Abroad Group Set to Depart

The School of Business and Economics has signed up a record number of participants for the study abroad tour to China this Fall.  43 students will be departing on September 4th for Hong Kong.  The group includes graduate and undergraduate students, 33 of whom will stay for the entire quarter studying at Southwest University outside of Chongqing.  Prior to arriving at Southwest, the group will visit with business leaders in Shanghai, Beijing and Hong Kong while traveling with SBE faculty members.  This is the largest group that SBE has ever taken on a study abroad trip and represents the fruits of considerable efforts to customize and promote a renewed focus on global education.  The School of Business and Economics now estimates that nearly 50% of SBE undergraduate students will have studied abroad prior to graduation. 

Summer Series with the School of Theology

This summer, at the request of the School of Business and Economics, the faculty of the School of Theology presented three day-long seminars for SBE faculty.  Central to SBE's mission is the development and promotion of an academically and theologically rigorous understanding of business.  To develop their competence in theological thinking, SBE faculty gathered with SOT faculty to participate in sessions on systematic theology, biblical theology and moral theology.  Each seminar involved presentations by faculty from t he School of Theology with opportunities for faculty from both schools to interact around a business case study. The seminars are to be continued through additional workshops in the upcoming academic year.
