Freshman Scholarships

An SPU student studies in the library We know you’re looking for scholarships, and we make applying for them simple. Just send in your admission application, unless otherwise noted. You can receive multiple scholarships with the exception of the merit scholarships, (Deans’, Presidents’ Trustees’, or SPU Scholar).

Ames Scholarship
Up to $5,000
For students from traditionally underrepresented ethnic backgrounds.
Summit Seeker's Scholarship (1)
Parent(s) current or former missionaries in a third world country. A four-year award, totaling $20,000, with descending amounts: $8,000(yr.1), $6,000 (yr.2), $4,000 (yr.3), $2,000 (yr.4).
Engineering Scholarships (Deffenbaugh or Burwell)
For incoming freshman who plan to major in an engineering discipline. Click here for an Online application
Fine Arts Scholarship
Up to $3,000

Free Methodist Scholarship
Affiliated with the Free Methodist Church.
National Merit Scholarship (3)
National Merit Semifinalists or Finalist (SPU 1st choice).
Alumni Scholarships
Parent(s) graduated from SPU.
Ministry Service Award

Parent(s) employed full time with a Christian church, mission, or para-church organization.

Church Matching Scholarship
Up to $500

SPU matches up to $500 of a scholarship awarded from an organized Christian church in the USA or Canada. More information can be found here.

SPU ROTC Academic Achievement Award (2)
Room and Board
For consideration, students must be a recipient of a three or four year scholarship from Army or Air Force ROTC.
FIRST Scholarship (2)
Merit-based scholarship for high school seniors who have participated on a FIRST Robotic Competition team during their junior or senior year in high school or a FIRST Tech Challenge.

Note: Scholarship amounts and award guidelines are subject to change at the University’s discretion, and they may be adjusted based on the competitiveness of the applicant pool.

* The guidelines shown for the awards noted with an (*) reflect the average GPAs, ACT or SAT (CR+M) scores earned by freshmen students who entered SPU beginning in Autumn 2015. A student may receive no more than one of these (*) awards during the same academic year. Average SAT scores based on Critical Reading and Math sections.

** These amounts have recently increased for students entering Autumn quarter or later
