Experience: Dr. Baker brings theological and entrepreneurial experience to SBE. Having studied astrophysics at CalTech, he applied his interests in science and business to develop and launch several technological products in computing and industrial automation, including the invention of an automated 3-D X-ray vision machine for which he earned five patents in a venture capital start-up company he co-founded in 1986. The company was purchased by Hewlett-Packard in 1992. He also served as a product manager at Intel and General Manager at Microsoft, where he was responsible for the first “pocket PC” business unit.
Bruce left Microsoft in 1996 to attend seminary, and was ordained to pastoral ministry in the PC(USA) in 2001. Bruce began teaching as an adjunct at SPU in 2004, and served on the faculty during 2006-07, the year before he and his wife Linda and son Jacob moved to St. Andrews, Scotland, so he could pursue his Ph.D. In addition to ethics, he has taught courses in business strategy, non-profit management and theology, as well as many seminars dealing with science, faith and spiritual formation. He serves on the boards of ScholarLeaders International and Reconciliation Ministries. He loves cycling, backpacking and travel.
