William Carey     (1761 - 1834)

An English cobbler by trade, an evangelist by calling, William Carey's spiritual influence led to the founding of the Baptist Missionary Society which became the model for the 19th Century's worldwide missionary movement.  In 1793 he embarked on his great work, becoming an evangelist in India.  As part of that mission, Carey translated the Bible into 30 languages and dialects, and became known as the father of modern Protestant missionaries.

"Expect great things from god, attempt great things for God."
