Cori Anne Tang

cori anne tangWhat is your major?
I majored in Applied Human Biology where I had the opportunity to go beyond learning about human anatomy to study topics in ecology, psychology, and physics!

What is something you wish everyone knew about your major?
STEM majors can study abroad! I know it can seem intimidating and impossible with the number of biology courses needed, but studying abroad in Uganda was one of the best choices I made. Living in a different context made the learning somehow more meaningful as I navigated how my narrative and future career could fit into something so much bigger than myself. Take the classes you need, but do not forget that learning biology should also extend beyond the classroom.

What was your most impactful class?
Lifespan Developmental Psychology was the first class I took that made the connection between culture and medicine. Working in the medical field requires a specific understanding of the population being served, and this particular class allowed me to grasp what that truly meant.

What are some of your career goals?
I am hoping to attain my Master's in Public Health where I can learn what it means to take a holistic approach to medicine.

What advice do you have for incoming students?
Become a good listener. I have found so much joy and humility in listening to the stories of others; there is always more to learn. Listening can break down barriers and if you just take the extra moment to listen to someone, who knows what kind of beautiful world we can create.
