What is DreamSpark?

DreamSpark is a program set up by Microsoft to provide students with software design and development tools at no charge.

How To:

Access DreamSpark
Students wishing to download programs such as Visual Studio as well as variety of other Microsoft Products made available through DreamSpark, must go

Choose Your Dreamspark Site

  • DreamSpark for Students – All SPU students may create an account and download software
    1. Click “Learn More”
    2. Select “Create an account” if needed. Use your SPU email address and select “Get verified through my School”, using Seattle Pacific University as the school name.
    3. You will receive an email message from DreamSpark with further instructions.
  • DreamSpark for Academic Institutions – Limited to students admitted to a major in engineering or computer science. You must have already received a welcome email with a username and password to use this site.
    1. Click “Learn More”
    2. Enter “Seattle Pacific University” in the “Access your institution’s DreamSpark WebStore” box and click “Enter the WebStore”
    3. Select “Sign In” and enter the username and password you were assigned in the DreamSpark welcome email.

Common Problems:

These are large files, we strongly encourage you to use a wired connection to complete the download. If you use wireless the download may not complete properly.


An email is sent to your SPU account to verify your account. If this does not arrive in your inbox, check your junk mail folder. You must activate your account prior to downloading the software.

Pop Up Blocker

You may need to disable your pop up blocker in order to download software.

Burning an ISO Image

If you're running Vista or Windows XP, you may need additional software to burn an ISO image. Information on what an ISO image is as well as what applications are available may be found here.

Windows 7 has built in software in the operating system that will allow users to burn ISO images without an additional application.
