50th Annual Meeting of the Wesleyan Theological Society

The Wesleyan Theological Society is pleased to announce that its 50th Anniversary meeting will be held at Mount Vernon Nazarene University, Mount Vernon, Ohio on March 6-7, 2015.  The theme for the golden anniversary meeting is “The Past and Future of Wesleyan-Holiness Identity.”  Plenary speakers are Beth Felker Jones of Wheaton College and Douglas Strong of Seattle Pacific University.  Dr. Jones’ address is entitled “The future of Wesleyan theology is revival,” and Dr. Strong will speak to the meeting on “Wide Awake to True Knowledge and Righteousness:  The First Fifty Years of the Wesleyan Theological Society, 1965-2015.” Richard Thompson, Ph.D., Professor of New Testament at Northwest Nazarene University, will give the WTS Presidential Address, “Holy Word, Holy People: (Re)Placing Scripture in Wesleyan-Holiness Thought and Practice.”

 

The society will confer three awards at the meeting.  The Lifetime Achievement Award will be given to David Bundy for his career achievements in Wesleyan-Holiness scholarship, The Pastor/Preacher/Scholar Award to Henry W. Spaulding, II, President of Mount Vernon University, and the Smith/Wynkoop Book Award to Priscilla Pope-Levison for her book, Building the Old Time Religion: Women Evangelists in the Progressive Era.

 

Two of the partner societies of the WTS, The Wesleyan Philosophical Society and The Wesleyan Historical Society, will hold meetings at Mount Vernon on Thursday, March 5, 2015.
