NEW THIS YEAR:

The 2008 Washington Symposium will be held while Seattle Pacific University classes are in session.  This will allow interested WJSHS student participants to be hosted by University students and to have an authentic college visit experience.
Poster sessions will be conducted at the 46th National JSHS. Unlike previous years in which the 3rd place regional winners just attended the National Symposium, in this trial effort, the 3rd place WJSHS winner will be invited to present his or her research in non-competitive poster sessions. Student attendees at the National Symposium will select 10 top-place finishers and a "student’s choice" winner.  Large medallion ribbons will be awarded with no cash prizes.
National JSHS judging score sheet was revised. The National JSHS scoring sheet moved from a point system to a scale.  WJSHS will adopt this new judging form. The judging criteria are the same.
Better communication with you.  Please take one minute to provide us with your contact information.
IMPORTANT DATES:

We invite all interested Washington State high school students in grades 9-12 to participate in the Washington Junior Science and Humanities Symposium (WJSHS) sponsored by the Physics Department at Seattle Pacific University in cooperation with the Academy of Applied Science and the Army Research Office, the Office of Naval Research and the Air Force Office of Scientific Research.

This is a two-day event that provides high school students, who have conducted original research in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics, with an opportunity to present their work to a panel of judges and an audience of high school students, teachers, parents, university faculty and students, and professional scientists.

All local room and board expenses are covered.  (Transportation to and from the Symposium is not covered at this time.)

WJSHS student presenters have the opportunity to win college scholarships and matching Seattle Pacific University scholarships, as well as the opportunity to attend and compete at the National Junior Science and Humanities Symposium.

Click here to find out more about Meghan Gavin (Bellarmine Prep School), the 2006 WJSHS first place winner, who also won first place in environmental science at the National Symposium and represented the United States at the 2006 London International Youth Science Forum.
