Assumptions
of the Facilities and Campus Framework Plan
The following are
the major assumptions of the Facilities and Campus Framework Plan:
- The time frame
for the master plan will be fifteen years. A detailed capital improvements
plan will be provided for the first five-year period.
- The facilities
and master plan should make provisions for an increase in the size
of the university enrollment that will be distributed as follows:
| |
2002-03 |
2007-08 |
2012-13 |
| Undergraduate
Residential |
2,700 |
3,000 |
3,500 |
| Graduate |
1,000 |
1,500 |
1,500 |
(The enrollment assumptions provided by the SPU
Enrollment Planning Committee are subject to revision.)
- The scheduling
of undergraduate classes and labs will be revised to make more efficient
use of classrooms and laboratories during the early morning and late
afternoon hours.
- Substandard classroom
space will be improved or excluded from the general classroom inventory.
- The University
will provide housing to meet the student demand and to support the
approved Board of Trustees residential housing policy.
- The University
will continue to offer undergraduate courses primarily during the
daytime hours, while graduate and non-degree courses will continue
to be offered primarily during the evening hours. Degree completion
programs may be added which could be offered in the late afternoon
and evening hours.
- Advances in information
technology will make it possible to accommodate some enrollment increases
through programs that make limited use of on-campus facilities.
- University faculty
and staff increases will accompany enrollment increases, but not necessarily
in direct proportion to the growth in enrollment.
- Some administrative
support functions and staff may be located off-campus through the
use of leased facilities and telecommuting.
- The facilities
and campus master plan will consider the implications of off-campus
programs and decentralization opportunities, but will focus primarily
on those programs and physical components located on or near the Queen
Anne campus.
