Our dream was once called impossible. During the spring of ’76, we, along with four of our friends, began envisioning a professional-caliber, non-profit theatre company here in Seattle. We wanted to offer our city beauty and hope through story-telling. Through many ups and downs, including a destructive fire only three years ago, our beloved Taproot Theatre Company continues to make its mark on Seattle. Theatre critics pay close attention to Taproot, which we are proud to say has become one of the largest mid-sized theatres in Seattle, with annual audiences of more than 150,000.
We are privileged to offer opportunities to new generations of SPU dreamers, and have already been privy to 60 talented Seattle Pacific students and alumni who have worked on Taproot productions.
We were honored to be chosen as Seattle Pacific University’s Alumni of the Year for 2011 and hope to continue fostering discussions on faith and culture through onstage story-telling for many years to come.
