DON'T PANIC! WHAT TO DO IN AN EMERGENCY AT SPU.
9-1-1.
Everybody knows: That's the number to call in an emergency.
But do you know who to call if there's a crisis while
you're on-campus at Seattle Pacific University?
That's easy to remember, too: Call x2911. The
Office of Safety and Security operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year,
and they'll answer your call. Yellow box emergency phones
are distributed throughout the campus in parking lots and many building
entries.
Here are four more details every SPU graduate student
should know about emergency procedures:
- SPU has an Emergency and Crisis Management Plan
posted online at www.spu.edu/emergency.
- SPU's emergency procedures booklet - Stop. Think.
Act. - is available in all offices and classrooms
and other key locations around campus. Copies have been permanently
affixed in each room on campus used for classes. For more information
on these books and their locations, contact Melanie Whitehead at
melaniej@spu.edu or 206/281-2537.
- Evacuation drills may occur at any time during
your courses. Be sure to familiarize yourself with the evacuation
procedure for your particular building. Each building has an emergency
evacuation plan in the Stop. Think. Act. booklet.
In addition to the booklet, most buildings have evacuation signs
near the floor exits and in classrooms that graphically illustrate
evacuation routes. When in doubt, students should look for overhead
exit signs in any public building.
Be one of those who knows what to do when the drill takes place,
not one of those who gets stuck unprepared. That way you'll be extra-prepared
if and when a crisis actually occurs.
- Other important safety and emergency information is available
at the Safety and Security Web site: www.spu.edu/depts/security.
You can find information about campus crime statistics and crime
prevention on this page as well.
