Washington Just for the Kids The fundamental principle underlying the WSRC effort is that the availability of solid and extensive achievement data can help to inform efforts to improve education. Identifying high-performing schools can be helpful to those schools of similar configurations that are trying to improve their efforts at teaching and learning, by modeling what is possible. All schools face difficulties and challenges. However, we believe strongly that children can achieve beyond the levels of current expectation, indeed excel at learning, when placed in appropriate learning environments. It is toward this end that the available data are provided. We are continuing to develop and improve our system to serve you better. When you select the elementary schools, middle schools, or district summaries links you will be leaving the SPU website and connecting to the National Center for Educational Accoutability at the University of Texas. The system is presently being updated but will soon include 2003 data for elementary schools, middle schools, and high schools. Target data for the system to be updated is March 15, 2004. Just
