The Voice of Perseverance: Heather Robinson's Story

By Sarah Jio

With an undergraduate degree and a few years of experience in the working world, Heather Robinson says she felt lost, unchallenged and unsure of her career path.

Learning about graduate study at SPU, however, was the first step towards change. A longtime interest in education and psychology led her to enroll in SPU's master degree program in school counseling. To Robinson, this seemed the clear answer for the fresh life change she was looking for. She would come to find, however, that this pursuit would open countless doors, challenge her immensely and eventually allow the title "Dr." to appear on her business card. Here you'll find your e-mail account, username and password, NetStore (a network-based, personal file storage resource) directory name, and other Windows NT-based computer accounts. To log on to Banner and the MARS system, visit SPU's Web site and follow the link under Virtual Campus to the Banner Information System.

You've Got Mail
As a registered student, you are automatically entitled to an SPU e-mail address, a great way to plug into the campus community.

This is not only Seattle Pacific's primary way of communicating with students, but it's also how professors often distribute class information. Additionally, University departments rely on e-mail to communicate important deadlines and information.
To learn more and to access your Seattle Pacific University e-mail address, visit the Computer and Information Systems' help page. Follow the steps provided to get your e-mail address up and running. You may also have your SPU e-mail address forwarded to another e-mail address of your choosing.

Create Your Own SPU-Hosted Web Site
Interested in hosting a personal Web page on the SPU server? If so, click on the above link to visit the MARS Web site and create a WebSpace account.
For additional information about MARS or any of your computer resources, please visit the Computer Help Web site. Also, for detailed information about the many SPU computer resources available to students, click on the "New Users" tab.

Student ID cards
A critical item to access library and other SPU services, obtaining an SPU ID card is easier than you think. Visit the Office of University services between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday-Friday to conveniently set up your SPU ID card in a matter of minutes. For more information, call 206/281-2188.

News for Financial Aid Recipients
When you applied for financial aid, you were sent a form entitled "Post-Baccalaureate/Graduate Information Sheet". This form asked you to indicate how many credits you were planning on enrolling in each quarter. The amount of loan money you are receiving was calculated based on the information you provided. If changes to your enrollment are necessary, please contact SFS as soon as possible. If you are enrolled for less than four credits in any quarter, loan funds are not available per federal regulations. Also, if you enroll for fewer credits than originally planned, you may not be eligible for the same amount of loan funds, since the cost of your tuition will be less.

For further information, please contact Student Financial Services (SFS) as soon as you know changes to your enrollment are needed. If you do not remember the number of credits you originally planned to take each quarter, contact SFS for that information as well.

2002-03 Financial Aid Applications
The Free Applications for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) are available in Student Financial Services. Students may also file their financial aid applications online at www.fafsa.ed.gov.

  • Fourth and fifth weeks of the quarter: 25%
