The Fremont Bridge is scheduled for more evening closures in January 2007. The closures are needed to place girders over the last four spans on the north side of the ship canal.

Driving Lanes, Parking Areas Shift on Fremont Avenue
Traffic along Fremont Avenue North between North 34th and 35th streets will be reconfigured to align with the eastern half of the bridge approach. Fremont Avenue’s eastern curb lane, used for parking since May, will become a driving lane, while parking will be allowed on the western curb lane (by Hansen’s Florists, Starbucks, and Blue C Sushi). Traffic flows on the north side of the bridge will remain the same after the shift, with one vehicular lane in each direction and a shared bicycle and pedestrian path. No turns will be permitted at North 34th Street for northbound vehicles.

Florentia Street Closed to Thru Traffic

Southbound Fremont Bridge traffic, accustomed to turning right at Florentia Street (between the Nickerson Street Bar and Grill and the Bleitz Funeral Home), will now continue to the signaled intersection at Westlake Avenue North, Dexter Avenue North, and West Nickerson Street. Cars can access businesses on Florentia Street from Third Avenus North.

Crosswalk at 34th Street and Fremont Avenue Temporarily Moved
Beginning Tuesday, August 29, pedestrians crossing North 34th Street at the Fremont Bridge will temporarily be directed to cross approximately 300 feet further to the east during construction work hours. Flaggers will be on site to direct pedestrians and vehicular traffic. The work requiring this change is expected to take place over a period of several days, after which pedestrians will resume crossing at the intersection. Construction crews are working on the off-ramp to eastbound North 34th Street from the Fremont Bridge.
