Make an Online Request for a House at Casey Next Year
Full-time faculty and staff members: October 1 is the deadline to submit an online request for a spring week or weekend in one of the Victorian-style officers’ houses at SPU’s historical beach property, Casey Conference Center, located on Whidbey Island. The turn-of-the-century houses -- once a part of the coastal military fortress known as “Fort Casey” -- are available for your personal vacation use for a nominal fee of only $35. The fee includes up to one week’s rental of a house for you and your guests, use of the gym, and access to other amenities at the conference center. Casey is a wonderful opportunity for your family and friends to enjoy a time away in the rural, historical beauty of Whidbey Island. Collect rocks on the beach, fly a kite, dine out and go shopping in Langley or Port Townsend. Casey is a great place for “R & R.” To see photos, please visit the Casey Web page.

Requests are due by October 1 for the scheduling period between February 1-June 16, 2002. Request a house online or by sending an e-mail to eanema@spu.edu prior to October 1. Indicate three or more possible dates on your request. The results will be distributed by October 31. There will be no printed versions of the Casey Reservation forms sent in campus mail. If you have any questions, contact Elizabeth Anema, administrative assistant at the Casey Conference Center, at (425) 775-0775.

PACRAO Hosts Workshop at SPU
The Pacific Association of Collegiate Registrar's and Admissions Officers (PACRAO) Professional Development Committee will offer a workshop on Friday, September 28, from 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at SPU. The topic is “E-Business for Student Services.” The cost is $20 and a light lunch will be provided. To register, e-mail Jean Elko at jean.elko@ubc.ca or contact her by phone at (604) 822-4390 by September 21. Make checks payable to UBC. For more information, contact Janet Ward at (206) 281-2701.

SPU International Students Need You
Several SPU international students will be new to the United States this fall. We want to show them some great SPU hospitality from the start! Some of their needs may include a pickup at the airport, short-term housing with a host family (ranging from one night to a month-long stay), bedding for their residence hall room, a home-cooked meal or just an SPU faculty or staff friend with whom to get together on occasion. Such acts of caring go a long way toward making them quickly feel at home. If you would be interested in helping in any way, contact Kevin McMahan at (206) 281-2486 or email kmcmahan@spu.edu <mailto:kmcmahan@spu.edu>. Please specify the type of service you might offer, what service you wouldn't be interested in, as well as particular world regions of interest.
