ANNOUNCEMENTS

Faculty With Evening Students
The Office of University Services will be open until 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, October 2, and Wednesday, October 3, for evening students to get their SPU ID cards. These cards are used to access meal plans, check out materials from the Library, and receive admission or discounts to theatre or sporting events. Students not able to make it during that week are encouraged to go to University Services during regular office hours, 8-5 p.m., Monday through Friday. University Services is located at 3220 Sixth West, across the street from Hill Hall.

Practice or Learn Spanish
Come join in or just listen at the Spanish Language Table every Thursday from 1-2 p.m. in the Gazebo Room of the SUB. No proficiency level required but note that all conversation will be in Spanish. This is great opportunity for all to hear the language in an informal, non-classroom setting and participate as you are able. Faculty and staff are encouraged to come and practice, share or learn Spanish with students in Spanish. If you have a Spanish version of the Bible, bring it!

Volunteers Are Needed for Phonathon
Volunteer for the 2001 University Fund Phonathon and help bring our alumni up-to-date on what's happening at SPU, including a record enrollment, the new Emerson Residence Hall and women's soccer! Join honorary chair Harland Beery '54 and an all-star team of alumni, faculty, staff and students during the evenings of October 8-11 and October 15-18. We'll provide the training, a great dinner and an opportunity to participate in a relevant and significant event-securing financial support for SPU. Contact Dean Carrell in the Development Office at (206) 281-2083, or e-mail carrell@spu.edu.

Put This Date on Your Calendar
President and Mrs. Eaton will host their annual Christmas Celebration for faculty, staff and their spouses on Thursday, December 6, from 6-8:30 p.m. at Hillford House, located at 600 W. Dravus Street. Invitations will be mailed to your home in November. Meanwhile, be sure and mark your calendar for a wonderful evening of fellowship and holiday cheer. If you have any questions, please contact the Office of the President at (206) 281-2111.

Let OCM Know of Students Studying Overseas
If you have a class overseas or are sponsoring a student who is studying independently overseas, please send a list of the students involved to Anne Towler, program coordinator in Campus Ministries, at atowler@spu.edu. Please send this list to OCM before the beginning of each quarter. This will prevent students from having a CFE hold on their registration for the following quarter. If you have any questions, please e-mail Anne.

A Message From Plant Services
We have been receiving increasing complaints about broken doors and doors that will not close on their own. After assessing several of these complaints, it has been discovered that the doors are being blocked open by putting objects between the hinges. While this keeps the door from closing, it breaks the hinges on the door and causes a large repair cost. If a door needs to be blocked open, please use an appropriate doorstop at the base of the door. Please do not jamb open the door hinges. Any of the doors with automatic openers should never be propped open, as it will burn up the motor in the opening device. If you have any questions, contact John Mansfield, manager for building mantenance, at jem@spu.edu.

New Hours for Falcon's Landing
Falcon’s Landing and the espresso cart, Academic Perks, are now combined in the SUB with longer hours of operation on Monday-Friday. Falcon’s Landing, featuring the "Good to Go" section of gourmet sandwiches, salads, treats and drinks, will be open from 8:30 a.m - 8 p.m., Monday - Thursday and from 8:30 a.m. - 3 p.m. on Friday. Academic Perks, offering Starbucks espresso drinks, will operate from 7:30 a.m - 8 p.m., Monday - Thursday, and from 7:30 a.m. - 3 p.m. on Friday. You will be receiving more information about all campus dining options in the campus mail, as well as a coupon to use at the new Academic Perks.

Do You Know a College-Bound High School or Transfer Student?
