Employees of the Year Honored The "2001 Student Employees of the Year"
were named at the fifth annual Student Employee Recognition Ceremony on April
3. Out of the many nominations received from on- and off- campus employers, two
students prevailed. Jonathan Lyons was named on- campus "Student Employee of the
Year." Jonathan has been working in Computer Information Systems since the fall
of 1999. He was nominated by his supervisor, Reece Carson. Jennifer Benjamin was
named off-campus "Student Employee of the Year." She has been employed at the
Agros Foundation since January of 2000. Her nomination was submitted by Justin
Sundberg. Thank you to all of the supervisors that submitted nomination forms. The
selection process was a difficult one. There were many students that were qualified
for this award. April is "National Student Employment" month and we are encouraged
to say thank you to the student employees that are so vital to SPU and the surrounding
community. Were
You Ever a Student Employee? As we celebrate our student employees on
the SPU campus, the Office of Student Employment is hoping to put a story together
for The Falcon that will make a memorable addition for "National Student
Employment Month." (It will take something significant to overcome the hype of
April also being "National Frog, Floor Covering and Welding Month.") Would you
allow your own experience to be used to illustrate the success that can come to
student employees? All that is needed is to answer two simple questions. The questionnaire
can be completed by clicking the link. Thank you for your help. http://www.spu.edu/depts/ose/studentempques.html

Is Academic You've seen the banners around campus and yes, it's here!
Academic April has begun. This is our fourth year in using the month of April
to focus on students' academic progress and it's WORKING! Last year we saw a 5
percent improvement in our graduation rates; a big jump in such a short time.
Check out the Academic April Web site on the SPU home page at http://www.spu.edu/special/academicapril/.
All events are listed, including Faith Forums, career development sessions and
the new "Major's Fair." Look for ads in The Falcon for weekly updates and reminders.
Academic April is a universitywide event. As faculty and staff, you work closely
with students and through those relationships you have the opportunity to guide
their academic progress. As you are working with students, feel free to e-mail
Student Academic Services at sasinfo@spu.edu
with any questions regarding Academic April events. With your support, students
will continue to progress and graduate in a timely manner. Trivia

the personal as well as the cultural impacts this has on the people of two different
heritages. Tickets are on sale now at the FPA Box Office in McKinley Hall. Ticket
prices are $6 for students and seniors, $10 all others. Performances are April
19-21, 26-28, at 7:30 p.m. To purchase or reserve your tickets, stop by the box
