SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

Women's Opportunity Awards
Soroptimist International of Seattle Metropolitan is awarding a $1,500 scholarship to an eligible woman who has primary financial responsibility for herself and her dependents. The applicant must also demonstrate financial need and be entering or attending a vocational, technical training, or undergraduate program. Applicants with previous certificates are ineligible. Applicant must be motivated to achieve her educational and career goals. Applications are available in Student Financial Services, Demaray Hall. Application and two references must be received by December 15. If you have questions, contact Whitney Kruse at krusew@spu.edu.


The SFS Undergrad Scholarship Now Available!
Over 70 scholarships are now available to eligible students! Visit the SFS website today for an application. All applications and references are due to the SFS office by 4:00 p.m., December 1, 2006. [link]


Nursing Scholarships
See the link provided for available nursing scholarships. Scholarship awards range from $1,000-$5,000. All applications must be received by January 12, 2007. Scholarship eligibility includes: enrollment in a state-approved nursing program, pre-nursing student taking courses for matriculation to nursing program, be currently enrolled at least half-time, involved in nursing organizations, established academic achievement and financial need. Straightforward Media Scholarships
Straightforward Media is offering multiple scholarships for students majoring in business, communication, or medical. All scholarships are $500 and are based on a required essay. Applications due by December 31. To find out the essay topics and to apply, visit the website link provided. [link]

Discounted Warren Miller Tickets!
Now available in the ASSP office: Discounted tickets for Warren Miller's new feature film "OFF THE GRID" at McCaw Hall. Tickets are for the 8:00 p.m., Friday, November 17 showing and the 9:00 p.m., Saturday, November 18 showing. Seeking Stories of Thanksgiving
Campus Ministries invites you to submit a personal story of thanksgiving (500-700 words). Three stories will be selected and shared at our Thanksgiving Gathering on Tuesday, November 21. Please email your story no later than November 14 to Caenisha Warren at warrec@spu.edu.


Falcon Basketball Starts Next Week!
The Sodexho Tip-Off Classic will be held November 17-18. The women's first game will be Friday at 5:00 p.m. and the men's game starts at 7:00 p.m. in Royal Brougham Pavilion.

Internationally recognized for his study of the New Testament and ethics, Richard Hays, Professor of New Testament at Duke University Divinity School, is the keynote speaker for SPU President Philip Eaton's Symposium on "Embracing the Christian Story; Becoming Biblically and Theologically Educated in the 21st Century."


Psychology and Faith Forum
Tuesday, November 7, 3:00-4:00 p.m., Bertona 1. Dr. Richard Gorsuch, distinguished professor in the Graduate School of Psychology at Fuller Theological Seminary and visiting professor at Payap University in Thailand will be presenting on the important topic of how psychology and spirituality can co-exist. Veteran's Day Tribute
Thursday, November 9, 7:00 p.m., Tiffany Loop. The Student Union Board will be holding a Veteran's Day Tribute. Vietnam Veteran, Jim Egge, will be speaking about how serving our country has impacted his faith. Elie Wiesel Prize in Ethics Essay Contest 2007
Attention all full-time juniors and seniors: you can win up to $5,000 in the Elie Wiesel Prize in Ethics Essay Contest 2007. The annual contest was created to challenge college students to contemplate ethical issues facing them in today's society and to analyze their own perception and thoughts on ethics. Students entering the contest are required to complete an entry form along with their faculty sponsor. The deadline is December 8, 2006. Winners will be announced in April of 2007. Applications are now available for the June 27 to July 30 SPU/University of Salamanca, Spain program. This program is filled on a first apply/accepted policy. Only 20-25 students will be accepted.
