SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

LAST WEEK TO TURN IN ICW SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS
There are seven Independent Colleges of Washington scholarships available to students attending private colleges in Washington. Award amounts range from $850 to $2,500, depending on the scholarship. Applications for all these scholarships can be found in the SFS office located in lower Demaray. All applications and materials are due to ICW by this Friday, March 17, 2006. The Woman's Century Club Scholarship
This scholarship is available to women who are in the fields of Fine Arts, Music, Medicine, Nursing, or Women's studies. This is a $1,000 scholarship based on financial need, scholastic achievement and be continuing he education in one of the five fields listed above. The application deadline is June 30th. Applications are available in the SFS office, located in lower Demaray. If you have any questions please contact Whitney Kruse at krusew@spu.edu


American Business Women's Association
The ABWA scholarship is available to female residents of Clark County in Washington who have completed (at least) their freshman year at an accredited college. Applicants must be a US citizen and a full time student. Applications can be found in the SFS office located in lower Demaray and should be received no later that May 1, 2006. Lubag Performs at Clinics Around the Northwest
Reuel Lubag, Director of the SPU Vocal Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Piano Instructor has just finished a series of performances and clinics around the Northwest. He took a short tour of CWU in Ellensburg featuring Corey Christiansen, Christian Fabian, and Matt Jorgensen. The group also performed at the New Orleans Creole Restaurant for three evenings and presented clinics at local Roosevelt High School. Locally and at Ellensburg High School Reuel has been serving as a piano consultant for the music department at CWU and may possibly be involved this next year as a part-time instructor in their newly established jazz degree program. Mr. Lubag also worked as a clinician and adjudicator recently for the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival, performing with Roy Hargrove, Antonio Hart, Bob Hurst, Claudio Roditi, Benny Green, Russell Malone, Kristin Korb, and others. This last week he did a clinic for the Snohomish school district sponsored by the Pacific Jazz Institute and also performed with the Seattle Repertory Jazz Orchestra and vocalist Ernestine Anderson at Benaroya Hall and Kirkland Performing Arts Center. Changes to the Financial Aid Process
Student Financial Services has made some changes to the financial aid process. If you are current financial aid recipient and will be returning next year here is what you can expect after you file your 2006-07 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA): You will receive an email from Student Financial Services requesting further information if, in order to create your financial aid package, additional documents are required. You will receive an email notification that, “your Offer of Financial Assistance is ready to be viewed on your BanWeb account". You will not receive a paper copy of your Offer of Financial Assistance. You will no longer need to sign and return your Offer of Financial Assistance. You will need to sign and return a Master Conditions of Financial Aid form one time while receiving aid at SPU. Please read it carefully. You will need to complete a Master Lender Selection form once while receiving federal Stafford loans at SPU. If you decide to change your Stafford loan lender after the Master Lender Selection form is completed or would like to make any changes to your Offer of Financial Assistance, you will need to contact Student Financial Services by email, phone or in writing. If you have any questions regarding these changes, please contact Student Financial Services at (206)281-2061 or send an email to sfs-info@spu.edu.

All students with an interest in writing for publication are urged to attend the SPU Christian Writers Renewal, May 5-6. Discount Student Price: $50 (this cost includes the closing banquet).
