SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

Washington State Emergency Management Scholarship
This $500 scholarship is awarded to Washington State college students in their junior or senior year pursuing a diploma, baccalaureate, or graduate degree in emergency management or a closely related field. The deadline for applications will be May 30, 2005. For more information please contact Student Fiancial Services at kevere@spu.edu.


Sallie Mae Unmet Need Scholarship
The Sallie Mae Unmet Need Scholarship offers financial support and helps to encourage educational assistance. Eligibility for this scholarship include: being a U.S citizen; having a family adjusted gross income for the calendar year 2004 of $30,000 or less; demonstrate unmet financial need of at least $1,000; have a cumulative GPA between 2.5 and 3.0 (students with a GPA of 3.1 are not eligible to apply); and a high school senior or graduate planning to enroll or a student already enrolled in a full-time undergraduate course of study. All application material must be sent in one envelope! All materials must be postmarked by May 31, 2005. For more information please contact Student Financial Services at kevere@spu.edu.


The Women's Century Club Scholarship
The Women's Century Club Scholarship is a $1,000 award that will be awarded to a woman whose programs or classes make a worthwhile addition to the quality of life. All applicants must be a citizen of the United States and an undergraduate student with Junior standing. They also must be a woman currently attending a fully accredited school of higher education in the State of Washington. They need to be in need of financial assistance and have demonstrated high scholastic ability and must be continuing an educational program in one of the following fields: Fine Arts; Music; Medicine or Nursing; or Woman's Studies. All application materials are to be postmarked by June 30, 2005 and received no later than July 5, 2005. For more information please contact Student Financial Services at kevere@spu.edu.


Soroptimist Scholarship Endowment Award
The Scholarship Endowment Award has been established by the Soroptimist Club of Seattle, Metropolitan and is awarded periodically to a person from the Seattle community who is committed to attaining a higher education. Applicants for this award must meet the qualifications and criteria specified below. The scholarship is awarded based upon demonstrated need. Criteria: Course of study should provide career advancement, course of study should lead to a BA, BA, Masters, or Doctorate degree, career goals should be clear and attainable within a reasonable period of time, statement of financial need (funding is for tuition and fees only and will be paid directly to the institution), must be currently in a program or accepted to a program and you must provide two (2) personal and two (2) academic/work letters of reference. Applications can be found in the SFS office. All materials must be postmarked on or before June 1, 2005. For more information please contact kevere@spu.edu.

Please note the special hours for Campus Dining Services during Memorial Day Weekend: Gwinn Commons will be open Monday, May 30 the following hours: 8:30 a.m. - 10:00 a.m., Noon - 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. Gwinn will be open regular hours on Saturday and Sunday. Falcons Landing will be closed on Monday, May 30. TODAY IS THE LAST DAY TO APPLY FOR OTL!! Job responsibilities include acting as a host, advocate, advisor and friend for new students and their families as they transition to SPU. You'll also facilitate discussions with small groups during the four days of Orientation (Sept. 22-25) and help the Office of Student Life evaluate the Orientation program. Europe Trip, France/Spain, 2006
Register early for the "Paris, Loire Valley, and Barcelona" tour set for July 13-24, 2006! The tour includes Paris, Versailles, Chartres Cathedral (famous stained glass windows), grand ch‚teaux of the Loire Valley, the Dordogne region (prehistoric cave paintings), the Medieval walled town of Carcassonne, Salvador DalÓ's Museum in Figueras, Spain, and ends in Barcelona. The trip is open to students, adults, and friends. A $95 registration fee holds your space and, if paid by June 30, 2005, locks in current rates of $3,360 (23 or younger) and $3,785 (24 or older). Rates include RT airfare, hotels, two meals/day, ground transportation, museum entrances, and a guide. Final payment is due March 1, 2006. Alternate flight arrangements may be made for an extended stay.
