SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

2005 Summer Aid Applications Available in Student Financial Services
Students considering taking at least 6 credits this summer and are interested in summer financial aid need to turn in a Summer Aid Application. Stop by Student Financial Services to pick up your application or get one online at http://www.spu.edu/sfs . If you haven't already submitted the 2004-2005 FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) the federal processor will need to receive it no later than June 30, 2005 to be potentially eligible for federal or state financial assistance. Alternative loans provide another source of funding; go to www.spu.edu/sfs for more information and to apply online. If you have any questions please contact Student Financial Services at (800) 737-8826 or sfs-info@spu.edu.


Two Scholarships for Women Available!
The Ruth C. Bartells Memorial Fund Scholarship and the Geraldine E. Kelsch Memorial Fund Scholarship are awarded to two women who demonstrate academic merit, leadership, integrity, service to others, and need. To be eligible you must be, a female US citizen and a resident of King County, is a high school graduate or equivalent, a college student within two years of completing their degree (June 2007) and has completed at least two quarters of post high school education, will be enrolled full-time, and holds a minimum GPA of 2.8. Please visit the Student Financial Services office to pick up an application. All materials are to be received by April 20th. Please email Whitney Kruse with questions at krusew@spu.edu


Accounting Scholarships Available
Hey all you accounting majors! There are many accounting scholarships available for you! Eligibility differs for each scholarship. The deadline for these scholarships is April 15th. Hurry into the Student Financial Services office to check them out!


ICW Scholarships
Applications for the ICW (Independent Colleges of Washington) Scholarships are due by April 11th. There are more than eight scholarships for students majoring in business, permanent residents of Gig Harbor, do lots of volunteer work, and more. Eligibility requirements differ for each scholarship. Please visit the Student Financial Services office for applications and descriptions of each scholarship offered. You can apply for more than one scholarship but you must fill out a different application for each scholarship. If you have questions please contact Whitney Kruse at krusew@spu.edu.


Young Alumni Scholarship
This is the last week to turn in your applications for the Young Alumni Scholarship! Student eligibility includes junior SPU students who have demonstrated academic achievement and have shown a commitment to volunteer service off campus. Applications are available online at http://advance.spu.edu/yac/docs/YAC%2005-06%20Scholarship%20Application.pdf . Student Counseling Center Spring Groups
The Student Counseling Center is offering two groups for the Spring quarter. First, "So your parents followed you to school: A group for looking at your continued family relationships now that you are away from home". The group will meet Thursdays from 3-4pm. Contact Erik Mildes in the Student Counseling Center at 206-281-2657. And the second group, “Do you have a family member who struggles with substance abuse?: A group for students wanting to connect with other students who have a similar challenge". Here you can learn your own 12-step approach to well-being, build self-esteem and healthy relationships. These will be held on Tuesdays. Contact Jessica or Suzanne in the Student Counseling Center at x2657 for this second group.


Falcon Career Lunch - $5 deadline extended
The discounted registration deadline has been extended! Register before April 8th for just $5.00 ($10 after). Thursday, April 14th in Upper Gwinn from 12:30-2:00 is your chance to network with SPU alumni and other professionals and learn more about specific career fields in your major or areas of interest. Networking with Integrity and Ease - Workshop
"Don't wait for your ship to come in. Swim out to it." Networking is something we do naturally, everyday of our lives. On Tuesday, April 12th at 1:00 in Demaray 261, learn how to consciously develop your network with integrity and ease from SPU Alum, Chris Frickel, Director of Tournament Marketing for PGA of America-PNW Section. This workshop is co-sponsored by CDC and AUSBE.


Financial Life 101
Come and learn all you need to know about managing your finances and handling credit responsibly. Financial Life 101 is a free session that will cover the basics of handling your finances wisely. Tuesday, April 5th at 1:00 p.m. in the Library Seminar Room. Come and have your financial questions answered by an expert. Door prizes! It's FREE! Sponsored by Student Financial Services.

Learning Strategies Workshop: "Where Does Your Time Go?"
In this session, you will learn how to evaluate your use of time, maximize your efficiency when studying, and make time for those things that are most important to you. April 5 (Tuesday), 8:00-9:00 p.m., Ashton Hall 5th Floor Lounge. Open to all undergraduate students at SPU. Majors Fair & Workshops
Unsure about which major is right for you? Wondering about the career directions for different majors? Faculty from every SPU major and counselors from the Career Development Center and SAS will provide information and resources at the Majors Fair on Thursday, April 7th in Upper Gwinn from 10:00-1:00. Learning Strategies Workshop: "How to Read Faster and Learn More"
Is your reading load a bit heavy this quarter? Learn practical strategies that will improve your reading rate as well as your comprehension and memory of what you have read. Gain hands-on experience in previewing, note-taking, and concept mapping--as well as a few tips on what to do if you are pressed for time. April 7, 7:00-8:00 p.m. in Weter 202. Open to all SPU students.


Passed Registration Deadlines
WAITLIST HAS ENDED Unless you received confirmation from Student Academic Services, by the end of last week that you got into a course you waitlisted, please stop attending the waitlisted course. REGISTRATION VIA THE WEB IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE As of 5:00p.m. on Monday, April 4th, registration via the web disables. The deadline for adding classes for Spring Quarter is 5:00p.m. Monday, April 4th. OTHER REGISTRATION DEADLINES Students wishing to take a course Pass/No credit or registering for an internship, independent study, or individual instruction in music may do so in Student Academic Services (Demaray Hall 151) through 4:30p.m. on Monday, April 11th.
