SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

American Indian Services Scholarship
American Indian Services is a non-profit organization that awards over $1,500.00 in scholarships each year. Students must be: enrolled at an institution of higher education, one quarter Native American Blood, an undergraduate with no more than 210 quarter credits, full time or part time student status, and have a minimum GPA of 2.25. Awards for 2003-2004 will range from $500.00 to $1,500.00. Applications are available in the Student Financial Services scholarship notebook.

Maxwell Foundation Scholarship for Incoming Freshmen
The Maxwell Foundation is offering $3,500.00 in scholarships for the 2003-2004 school year. Students must: be a Western Washington resident, an incoming freshman at an independent college/university, and have a combined SAT score of at least 1200. Applications and details available online at www.maxwell.org, deadline is April 30.


School of Theology Scholarships for Next Year
Information about School of Theology Scholarships is on the School of Theology website. You can obtain the application from the website http://www.spu.edu/depts/theology/scholarship.html, or you can come to the office (1st floor - Alexander Hall) for a copy.

Oh, Those Vikings!
The Nordic Club is participating in the Viking Symposium at the Nordic Heritage Museum in Ballard, Saturday, April 26. Please join us to learn about Viking history, weaponry, religion, food & arts. There will be a special student rate of $5.00 for our club (regularly $20.00!). We'll head over to Heritage day, at the Leif Erikson Lodge, at 12:00 p.m. The day will feature free demonstration and displays of Norwegian arts and crafts, genealogy information, as well as Norwegian foods and gift items. Falconettes Applications

Loan Exit Counseling for Seniors
Are you graduating this spring? Did you borrow any type of student loan? If the answer is yes to both of these questions, make it a priority to attend one of the following exit counseling sessions. They will be held in Demaray Hall 150 on: Tuesday May 6 at 1:00 p.m., 3:00 p.m., and 5:00 p.m. Wednesday May 7 at 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. Thursday May 8 at 1:00 p.m., 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. Each session will last about an hour and will provide important information about loan repayment, consolidation, deferments, forbearance and budgeting for life after SPU. Come get all of your questions answered before you start repaying your loans. Failure to attend a session will result in your transcript being held.

Spend part of Christmas break in Belize
Interested in learning about coral reefs and tropical forests and meeting your GE Biology requirement at the same time? The Biology Department will be teaching BIO 1100 in Belize from December 12-23. Cost for the trip is $2,799.00, which includes all tuition, airfare, local transportation, lodging, and most meals. (Note: Biology majors or students who have already taken a college-level Biology course can register for BIO 4950 instead of BIO 1100.)
