COMMUNITY NEWS

Tuition Freedom Day
Consider the following: There are 400 students scholarships funded annually out of the endowment. There are 200 endowed scholarship funds. Over 4,000 people donate to SPU student scholarships each year. April 15, 2008 is the 116th day of 153 class days this school year. That's 76% of the way through the academic year, which is how much of SPU's operating costs are covered by your tuition. Essentially from April 15 to June 6, your tuition is being paid by someone else. Without outside support, you would be paying over $7,600 more per year. Even if a student fully pays for his or her education with no loans, scholarships, or grants, that student would still need funding from the endowment. This spring, our campus will celebrate Tuition Freedom Day to thank those donors who help make up much of the difference between tuition and the rest of the money needed to operate SPU each year.
