Senate Briefs


The Senate recently passed a resolution to recommend changes to the University's alcohol policy and to place the proposal before a student vote during April 29's Senate election. In addition, the Senate passed funding for QUEST, Celebration Week, a Jean Kilbourne lecture, and a scavenger hunt for transfer students. The Senate also purchased new camera equipment for The Falcon and allocated funds for students to attend the Urban Youth Workers Institute Conference

SENIOR SALUTE
Take some time and celebrate graduation with fellow seniors. The Young Alumni Council invites you to the 2004 Senior Salute, a cruise aboard the Emerald Star for graduating seniors and their guests. The cruise will be on Saturday May 15th from 6:30-10pm. Tickets are $20 which includes dinner, live jazz entertainment, and a cruse around the sound. Tickets are available in the ASSP office or the Alumni Office.


STUDENT BUDGET COMMITTEE PRESENTATION
The ASSP Student Budget Committee will be giving a presentation to the ASSP Senate on Monday April 19th at 8:30pm in the Library Seminar room. The presentation will summarize the topics students discussed with University Administration regarding the SPU budget and the resulting tuition. As with all ASSP Senate meetings, the presentation and discussion is open to all students to participate in. If you have questions or have topics you would like presented please contact ASSP Vice President of Finance - Richard T. Moore at assp-vpfinance@spu.edu.


SUB COMPUTERS
In case you haven't noticed, four computers are now available in the SUB which allow access to the Internet and email. These computers were paid for entirely out of ASSP funds. Enjoy!


ROCK THE VOTE
Come to Weter at 9 p.m. on Monday, April 12 to meet the candidates for next year's ASSP Officer position. There will be free root beer floats and music from Elevate, the band that played “Sputnik" at this year's Talent Show! 2004-2005 SENATE APPLICATIONS
Applications for 2004-05 Senate seats are now available in the ASSP Offices. Open seats include Commuter Senator, Campus Housing & Apartments Senator, Intercultural Senator, and Senator-At-Large. This year, we also have new seats representing academic disciplines, which include Business & Economics, Education, Health Sciences, Psychology, Theology, Fine Arts, academic seat, you must have an intended major or minor in that school of college division. Humanities, Science Engineering, and Social & Behavioral Sciences. In order to run for an Applications are due April 21 at 5:00 p.m. Please contact James Pedrick with any questions at assp-execvp@spu.edu or 206-281-2499.


FACULTY OF THE YEAR NOMINATIONS
Vote now for the faculty of the year. Criteria is based on: Christian commitment, teaching excellence, integrated approach to faith and learning, interest and enthusiasm conveyed to students, aid to individual students outside of class time, and service to SPU and its community. Nominations can be sent by emailing Bri Clark at assp-president@spu.edu with the faculty member's name and department as well as your name and academic year or through the ASSP box across from Unicom through Monday, April 12, 2004.

ACTIVITIES

STUB APPLICATIONS
Applications for all STUB positions will be available on April 12th in the ASSP office. Executive Director applications are due on April 26th, all other applications are due May 3rd. STUB coordinates all ASSP event programming on campus, including the Talent Show, Shapadooah, and Date Auction. Positions include executive director, concert coordinator, publicist, and five programmers.


CHEAP(er) MARINERS TICKETS
ASSP Night at the Mariners! It's Spring, get outside and go to a Mariners game on May 19th vs. Baltimore. Tickets will be available soon in the ASSP office. Student: $7 Faculty/Staff: $9. One ticket per SPU ID.
