Winter Quarter Grades Due

Winter Quarter grades are due in Student Academic Services (SAS) by 4:30 p.m. Monday, March 26. Grades may be submitted to SAS via the web, in person, placed in the SAS drop box (located outside of Demaray Hall 151), mailed, or faxed to 206-281-2669. Timely submission of grades helps students and offices with important processes such as the academic dismissal process, disbursing financial aid, and processing enrollment verification. If instructors want grades to appear on the web before March 26, they may contact SAS Coordinator of Student Records Kelli Knapp at kknapp@spu.edu so grades can be rolled to academic history. If there are challenges when grading students, please contact SAS PRIOR to the grading deadline for they may be able to assist with resolving the situation. If you have questions concerning grading or meeting the University deadline, contact Kelli at 206-281-2636.




Car Wash Fundraiser This Week on Campus

The SPU Crew is washing cars this week for their annual fundraising drive to support a student's full tuition and fees at Hope Africa University (HAU) in Burundi. Through these car washes, crew teams have raised enough money to help two nursing students graduate in El Salvador, as well as HAU graduate Joseph Khalwale '09, who is now a school teacher in Kenya. Come to Third Avenue West and Wet Nickerson Street between noon and 2 p.m. (on sunny days) to get your car washed and make a donation.




Nominations for 2012 Staff Members of the Year

Do you know a deserving staff member? Nominate them for the 2012 Staff of the Year. For every nomination you make, your name will be entered in a raffle for a gift basket. Recipients of this award will be recognized at the May Spring Forum. Remember, nominations are due April 1! More




Nominate a Student for the Barnabas Scholarship

Do you know a student who demonstrates Christian character, has made a commitment to on or off campus service, shows a willingness to take on tasks regardless of recognition or challenge, demonstrates leadership, and will be a senior during the 2012-13 school year? If so, we encourage you to nominate the student for the Barnabas Servant Leadership Scholarship. Recipients of this scholarship receive a $750 cash grant, and a contribution of $250 will be given in their name to a charity of their choice. Online nominations are due by April 6 and can be found on the University Ministries/Center for Worship Student Leaders website. More




Lunch, Listen, and Learn: American Heart Association

Have you been paying closer attention to your activity level due to SPU Globe Trekkers? Or just wondering about resources to help give you the best chance at a longer life, prevent heart disease, and feel stronger and healthier now and well into the future? Bring your lunch to this session in the Library Seminar Room at noon on Monday, April 2, or Tuesday, May 22. Learn how the "Simple 7" can radically change your physical health. Each session will provide the same information and is approximately one hour in length. Feel free to invite your spouse. RSVPs prior to the event are greatly appreciated (but not required). What are the different parts of Medicare? Which ones will I need? How much does Medicare cost? What does Medicare cover? What can you do about the things it doesn't cover? Learn the answers by attending this seminar in the Library Seminar Room at noon on Wednesday, April 4. The seminar will last one hour. Feel free to invite your spouse to attend. Introduction to Bike Commuting by the Cascade Bicycle Club

Each year, more and more people choose bicycling for transportation. While you may know how to ride a bike, you may wonder how to share the road with traffic, plan the best route to work, and arrive in style for that first meeting of the day. Join a certified Cascade Bicycle Club instructor for this free one-hour introductory class on Thursday, April 5, at 12 noon in Demaray Hall 353. In this class, you'll learn how to choose and adjust a bicycle; the rules of the road; riding safely and comfortably; planning your bike route; choosing clothing, helmets, and gear; and basic bike maintenance. Also on-hand will be SPU bike commuters, who will share their routes and tips on commuting to campus. From Scott Edwards in Marriage and Family Therapy. “The NBA (Noon Basketball Association) will play Spring Quarter on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 11:30 a.m.–1 p.m. in the main gym. There has been a core group of faculty and staff playing for many years (some of us for decades – Bill Woodward). We extend an invitation to faculty and staff to join us — whether you are new to the SPU community, haven't played in a while, or don't think you have skills (should have seen me 11 years ago). With March Madness here, now is the perfect time for scheduling in some great exercise, fun, and community. Camp Casey Faculty Staff House Summer Reservations 2012 are OPEN

The summer reservation requests are now being taken for the Faculty/Staff House at the Camp Casey Conference Center on Whidbey Island. The dates of stay currently available are June 11-September 24, 2012. Reservation requests are due by March 23. The summer requests are based on years of service to SPU (provided by Human Resources) and past summer stays at Casey. Visit the Camp Casey website to request a reservation. More
