|Thanksgiving Chapel Nov. 25.|
The annual SPU Thanksgiving Chapel is Tuesday, November 25, at 9:30 a.m. in First Free Methodist Church. An offering for the Campus Benevolence Fund, which provides emergency assistance to students and other members of the SPU community, will be taken. Campus offices and departments will be closed from 9:15-10:30 a.m. Faculty and staff are encouraged to attend.
|Autumn Quarter Data-Quarterly Trends Now Available Online|
Have you wondered how many students have been admitted to your department's major and/or minor? What the student demographics are for your graduate program? How many student credit hours an undergraduate department or graduate program is generating? What the student profile is for residential versus commuter students, or by residence hall? Have you needed to find SPU's student or employee FTE? You can now get the answers to these questions by viewing "Census Trends" on the Information and Data Management website. You can also view the pages for academic, enrollment, or employee information. There are many changes to the census web pages, with most information available in Microsoft Excel format. The site has also added a "Meta Data Dictionary," which contains the terms and approved definition and metrics for use in internal and external reporting. |Exercise Science Students Need Volunteers|
Attention faculty and staff. Exercise science students are looking for guinea pigs ... no, only kidding. If you have ever wanted to start an exercise program, but really not sure where to start, now is your chance. Exercise science students will be available on a limited basis to help you design a program that is just right for you. If you are interested, stop by the Physical Education/Exercise Science office in Brougham Pavilion and sign up.
|Nominate a Student for a SPRINT Trip|
Is there a student that you think could really benefit from a SPRINT trip? SPRINT
sends students on short-term mission trips for five-six weeks during the summer.
This year we hope to send trips to 11 different countries. Trips also have
different focuses from health to education to business. If you have a

|Women's Brownbag Bible Reading|
“Devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to exhortation, to
teaching." 1 Timothy 7:14. Join us in the Lower Weter conference room on Tuesdays
at noon as we read through the Bible aloud. We just finished Isaiah, and this week
we begin Jeremiah. The reading starts about 12:10 p.m. Feel free to bring your
lunch. We have lots of Bibles (ESV), so you don't need to bring your own unless you

|SPU's Library Summit Borrowing Services Changes|
The SPU Library's Summit borrowing service will change software December 1. It will be complicated for all 34 Orbis Cascade Alliance libraries close out one system and move to a new system at the end of Autumn Quarter. Because the renewal feature is not yet ready, the Orbis Cascade Alliance library directors recently voted to extend the loan period for Summit books from four to six weeks. Here are some dates of importance for this transition to the new software.
November 20–December 1. The due date for Summit books checked out between November 20 and December 1 is December 12, 2008.
December 1. This is the first day you can request items using the new Summit software. Requests placed using the new software will be due six weeks from check out and cannot be renewed.
December 1–12. Please return any Summit books you are no longer using before December 12. All the libraries of the Orbis Cascade Alliance expect an avalanche of books being turned in on December 12.
December 12. All Summit books checked out on the “old" system will be due.
|Not Too Late to Buy Sacred Sounds of Christmas Tickets|
Tickets are still available for SPU's ninth annual Sacred Sounds of Christmas concert Sunday, November 30, in Benaroya Hall. Featuring SPU's nationally acclaimed Concert Choir, Wind Symphony, and other groups, this stirring performance of music and narrative tells the story of God's promise of a Savior, and the fulfillment of that promise in the birth of Jesus. This year, by popular demand, a second performance was added, however, the 4 p.m. concert is sold out. |Trzyna, Perisho Travel to Oman|
Professor of English Tom Trzyna and Humanities/Theology Librarian Stephen Perisho traveled to Muscat, capital of the Sultanate of Oman, to evaluate the libraries and learning resources of Sultan Qaboos University and its law and medical schools. They were assisted by Nancy Press from the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. The trip was organized by David Woodward of the American Cultural Exchange and Rashid Al-Kiyumi, senior advisor to Sultan Qaboos University, who earned his M.B.A. at SPU. The visit was hosted and coordinated by Her Highness Dr. Mona Fahad Al-Said.

|Keuss Presents Article, Has Article Published|
Associate Professor of Christian Ministry Jeff Keuss presented a paper titled “Is
White a Color?: Effective Approaches to the Taboo Subject of Race in Youth and
Family Ministry" at the National Association of Professors of Christian Education
conference in Atlanta last month. Also, his article titled “The Emergent Church
and Neo-Correlational Theology after Tillich, Schleiermacher, and Browning" was published in the latest issue of Scottish Journal of Theology, vol. 61, no.4, pp. 450-461. The article is available online.
|Thoburn, Doctoral Student Present Paper|
Associate Professor of Clinical Psychology John Thoburn and clinical psychology doctoral student Winslow Gerrish recently presented a paper on incarnational psychotherapy at the annual Society for Christian Psychology conference in Chicago.
|Lee Presents at ITAA|
Associate Professor of Textiles and Clothing Jaeil Lee presented a special session with a colleague at the Curriculum Development Committee of the International Textiles and Apparel Association (ITAA) in Chicago earlier this month. The presentation was titled “ITAA Four-Year Baccalaureate Program Meta-Goals for the Current and Future of Textiles and Clothing/Apparel Programs." The topic was related to an assessment of four-year clothing and textiles programs. Jaeil reports there were a lot of interest in the presentation and it was well received.
|Koskela, Wall Contribute to Book|
A book co-edited by Assistant Professor of Theology Doug Koskela was recently
published by Eerdmans Publishing. Immersed in the Life of God: The Healing
Resources of the Christian Faith is a volume of essays in honor of former
SPU Professor William J. Abraham. Two current faculty members in the School of
Theology contributed essays: Rob Wall, Paul T. Walls professor of Scripture and
Wesleyan studies, contributed the chapter “A Theological Morphology of the Bible: A Prescription for ‘Spiritually Disabled' Students." Doug contributed a chapter titled “The Healing Practice of Ecclesial Reconciliation."
