Off-Campus Access Guide
Off-campus access to online databases is available only to students, faculty, and staff of Seattle Pacific University.
Remote access requirements
SPU usernames and passwords are used for authentication, so there is no need to have your SPU ID card for remote database access (ID cards are needed to check out materials at SPU and other Orbis-Cascade Alliance Libraries). If you do not know, or have not yet set up, your SPU username and password please go to the Find My ID webpage.
Please Note: SPU students must be currently registered. During term breaks, students must be registed for the next quarter (for example, Autumn Quarter registration ensures access over the preceding summer).
Remote database access expires on the last day of the quarter for students who are not registered for the subsequent quarter. Once registered, library access will be restored the next day.
Logging in
When you click on one of the database links while off campus, you should see a screen like the image below:
Enter your SPU username and password to log in to Library Resources. Your SPU username is your SPU email address, without "@spu.edu."
If you are having problems logging in or have forgotten your password, try Find My ID first. Then contact the reference desk at the SPU Library for further assistance at reference@spu.edu or 206-281-2419.
What if I have saved a link using the old authentication system?
The change to EZproxy for authentication means the web addresses (URLs) for resources that require authentication for off-campus access are changed.
Database URLs that will work only from on-campus locations look like this:
http://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?profile=ehost&defaultdb=aph
The “old system” added the information shown in bold to the Database URL:
old system url example: http://0-search.ebscohost.com.deborah.spu.edu/login.aspx?profile=ehost&defaultdb=aph
While the EZproxy adds this information, also shown bolded, to the Database URL:
newsystem url example: http://ezproxy.spu.edu/login?url=http://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?profile=ehost&defaultdb=aph
To update a URL you have saved using the old system, delete the 0- and .deborah.spu.edu from the link and add “http://ezproxy.spu.edu/login?url=” to the beginning of the web address.
Note: The “OLD system" URLs will continue to work (with the old login method) through June 2011. If you have Library Resource URLs saved as bookmarks or Blackboard links, they will need to be updated by June for you to keep using them. Contact a librarian for more information about how to update these links.
Exceptions to the new login
- Summit Borrowing will continue to use your last name and ID number.
- Your Library Record will continue to use your name, ID number and PIN (birth date).
- RefWorks will continue to use the GroupCode and individually created account.
