Affiliation SPU is a private university founded in 1891 by the Free Methodist
Church of North America. Students and faculty represent more than 50 different
Christian denominations. Location
SPU's 43-acre city campus is located in a residential neighborhood on the north
slope of Queen Anne Hill, only ten minutes from the heart of downtown Seattle.
SPU also owns and operates a wilderness campus and field station on Blakely Island,
and a seaside campus/retreat facility on Whidbey Island.

Seattle Pacific University is accredited by the Washington State
Board of Education; the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities;
the AACSB International – the Association to Advance Collegiate
Schools of Business; the National Council for Accreditation of
Teacher Education; the Washington State Board of Education for
the preparation of elementary and secondary teachers; the Commission
on Collegiate Nursing Education; the Washington State Nursing
Care Quality Assurance Commission; Accreditation Board for Engineering
and Technology; the Commission on Accreditation/Approval for Dietetics
Education of the American Dietetics Association; and the Commission
on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy Education.
In
addition, SPU is approved by the American Council on Education; the Board of Regents
of the State of New York; the Commission on Christian Education of the Free Methodist
Church for preparation of ministers and missionaries; and the Department of Christian
Education of the Free Methodist Church.
SPU is a member
of the Christian College Consortium; the Council for Christian
Colleges and Universities; the American Association of Colleges
for Teacher Education; and the National Association of Schools
of Music.
