Find Your Track: Parents & Families

Going to college is a major adjustment — not only for students, but also for parents and other family members. Assisting your student in the college transition process will be invaluable to his or her college experience.

Parents can be the biggest asset to their students when they understand the transition process and the University policies so that they can help refer their students to the appropriate resources when needed.

The Orientation process for parents and families:

  1. Attend a New Student Advising event with your student. There is a separate parent and family program at all on-campus New Student Advising events (check out a sample schedule). Confirm your participation in a New Student Advising event with your student, because students register for themselves and their guests.

  2. Attend Parent and Family Orientation at Welcome Week (or Transfer Express if your student is a transfer student). Note: There is one sign-up form for both New Student Advising and Welcome Week/Transfer Express.
