Kim WardMy 2 Cents' Worth: Aha! Many of you are probably waiting for your “aha” moment — the instant a specific university clicks, and you can’t deny you fit there. It could come at any time: while listening to the buzz of the cafeteria on a campus tour, while sitting in on a class,
or while talking with an admissions
counselor. The moment will be a thrill and a relief — but not everyone experiences it. I didn’t, at least not until the middle of my freshman year at Seattle Pacific University. Sure, I believed I was making a good choice when I enrolled at SPU. But it was when I was chatting with my high school friends and comparing our college experiences that I suddenly realized — “ah ha” — my school was perfect for me. The best advice I can give to each of you seeking that sense of clarity is to visit campuses, meet the people who make a particular school unique, and basically get to know your prospective schools from the inside out. While my moment came later than I thought it might, I was still able to make an educated college decision based on what I knew about SPU and myself. I knew Seattle Pacific was a good choice; I hoped it was the perfect choice. And it was! Choosing a university may seem daunting, but it’s also exciting. As you go through this process, I hope you’ll be in contact. I’d love to help you in any way I can. Kim Ward ’05 Admissions Counselor
Meet an SPU student. Ryan Putnam gives you the skinny on life at SPU.“Theatre’s always made me feel alive. I came to SPU not really knowing what to study and decided to audition for the first two shows of the season. I was cast in the Homecoming show ‘A Man for All Seasons.’ The experience was great, and I slowly became more involved.” |
