A Brilliant Semester

at the University of Oxford

Me (a history major with an affinity for the Middle Ages) + Oxford University (founded in the 1200s) = love at first sight.

Here’s a boiled-down version of my semester: constant attempts to not look like a tourist as I wielded my camera inconspicuously and “disguised” my American accent by saying “Cheers” instead of “Thanks.” Sixteen papers, 38,222 words; weekly one-on-one tutorial sessions with Oxford professors during which the aforementioned papers were torn to shreds; soothing bike rides into town; calorie-burning ascents back up the hill to balance out my new diet, which consisted solely of hummus fries with falafel and full English breakfasts; marathon writing sessions in Starbucks and 400-year-old libraries; punting on the Thames; and an overnight bus ride to Edinburgh with nine new best friends. Cheers.
