Fellows and Friends

DAVID MCKENNA, SPU president from 1968 to 1982, and his wife, JANET VOORHES MCKENNA ’74 were honored in 2005 with the dedication of McKenna Carillion Tower and University Plaza at Spring Arbor University (SAU ), where David was once a student. Prior to serving as SPU president, he was SAU president from 1961 to 1968, and later he was chairman of the SAU board from 1998 to 2003. The McKennas now live in Sammamish, Washington.

HESTER SM ITH died July 24, 2006, at the age of 90. Hester moved from Greenville, South Carolina, to Seattle, where she taught at Ballard High School. In 1963, she managed SPC ’s registrar’s office until she retired in 1981. A member of Seattle’s First Free Methodist Church for 41 years, Hester was a national leader in Women’s Missionary Society and Bible Study Fellowship. She is survived by two daughters and six grandchildren.
