Eugene Lemcio’s life has come full circle. As a boy growing up in the tiny Ukrainian Baptist Church of his grandparents, Dr. Lemcio weekly saw his pastor holding up his corrected page proofs of the Scriptures that were to be published by the British and Foreign Bible Society.
Years later, Dr. Lemcio took something of a detour in pre-med at Houghton College. This had the effect, though, of baptizing him into the Wesleyan and Anglo-Methodist traditions. His doctoral supervisor at Cambridge University modeled for him the integration of scholarship, worship, and living. At SPU, Dr. Lemcio has been attempting to follow the high standards that his supervisor set.
In the late 1980s, thousands of Ukrainian refugees began flooding the state of Washington. With Dr. Lemcio’s background, he joined others in helping them to get basic services and establish churches.
In 1993, Dr. Lemcio began regular visits to the land of his grandparents, lecturing in their language on the Bible in state universities and seminaries of various denominations. Through teaching and writing, Dr. Lemcio is trying to make accessible the entire written Word of God for the entire people of God.
