Mike comes to SPU with an extensive background in both the church and academic setting. As an ordained Presbyterian minister, Professor Langford has spent several years in the local church; immediately prior to his arrival at SPU, he was pastor to youth and family at a large congregation in Austin, Texas. His doctoral studies were done at Princeton Theological Seminary, where he also taught and was a member of a number of research teams in diverse fields.

As a pastoral theologian, Professor Langford’s academic interests lie in the intersection of theology and ministry. He has published or helped publish works covering the practice of theology as vocation; the doctrine of justification; globalization and ministry; and adolescence and spiritual formation. His current research is in the relationship between the doctrine of salvation and the mission of discipleship.

A native Californian — and prior resident of Spokane, Washington — Professor Langford is thrilled to be back on the West Coast. He hopes to serve God and the SPU community by participating in the formation of disciples that will risk going out and changing the world by embracing the mission that God has given us all.

Please view Mike Langford’s C.V. for a list of publications.
