Seattle Pacific University complies with federal regulations. Many of these are designed to protect your rights or provide you with information. You should be aware of the following federal regulations:

FERPA : the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), which protects the right of parents of dependent students and of students who are attending or have attended the University. For text of this Act, click here.

HIPAA -
The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) was signed into law on August 21, 1996 . This federal legislation protects the privacy of your medical records. Entities at SPU covered by HIPAA include the Health Center in Watson Hall, as well as several other offices that may have a need to deal with your records (such as the finance office for billing).

Crime Statistics - Congress amended the Higher Education Act in 1998 to require reporting of crime statistics to give a fuller picture of campus security. For a report on SPU's data, see http://www.spu.edu/depts/security/crime_stats.asp
