ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS
Students who are considering majoring in Psychology should enroll in PSY 1180 General Psychology, then speak to a faculty member if desired for further information. These experiences will introduce the student to the field and the expectations of the major.
To declare a major in Psychology, formal application to the Department of Psychology should be made no later than the junior year, following successful completion of PSY 1180 General Psychology. An overall G.P.A. of at least 2.0 is required, and the application will include transcripts and a well-written statement of rationale for selecting this field of study.
General Psychology or an equivalent course must be completed before a student can take any additional psychology courses. Credits earned at other approved institutions may be applied to the psychology major requirements at Seattle Pacific University. Such courses must have a "psychology" prefix in the catalog of the granting institution and a course grade of "C-" or above. At least 20 psychology credits must be completed in residence at SPU, in order to receive a baccalaureate in Psychology. At least 10 psychology credits must be completed in residence at SPU, in order to receive a minor in Psychology.
